I; 1 prefumc this writer mu ft allude to the proceed ings o’ the meeting of Rc.puolican Citizens, lately held, for the purpose of agreeing upon \ County Delegates at the approaching deftion.! ‘Let any individual, divorced of prejudice, take; iroon the proceedings of that meeting and the ■ piece written by “ A Friend to drier,” and after heflefting upon the style, pronounce which is couched in language moil imperious and dog matical. Are the Republican Citizens not sola riled to fnppcrt the ticket agreed upon at the meeting alluded to ? Is this dogmatical ? But the language made use of by ‘ A Friend to or der,’ is the language of the day. The toe- 1 I’m of ahum is to be founded, and for electioneer ing purpose?. It has had effeil, and no doubt will continue to have effect with those who Are terid to take feats m the temple of Repubhcan ifm, but who can afford urtfavory evidence of their want of sincerity- Thv Rf-publican Citi zens feel the importance of having good and’ worthy men, men of talents and firmnefs attach ed to our fyilem of government, to hold offices under if, and feiedt such men proteft’mg agafiift the unfounded declaration tliat the profeffion of l democratic principles fupercedes every other confideratio i. It is in invidious talk to contrail cbaraccerr. and pretentions of men ; but if it mud be done the challenge has been given on the other fid. Suffice it at p-efent to fay, that Mr. Peter Hen ry Mcrtt, is one of our aided and mod refpeCb - hie citizens. Pofifeffed of a large family, with • all his property in this country, he of course has everything that can attach an individual to ho native country, to rivet his affections to this country, and to urge hir,i to promote its bell filtered?. Mr. Morel is. a gentleman of general reau • ing, strong mind, and correct political opinions, (rounded on an enlarged view of governmental ” principles) in the support of which, he has been . ever fteadv and uniform. ‘ A Friend to order,’ tells us that gentlemen of acknowledged repub lican principles are adopted in his ticket j and dees lie seriously claim credit for this measure ? Is it not done to endeavor to give currency to the ticket ? And does he not well know that the election of Mr. Bryan ia an event mqft cer tainly calculated upon ?
