\ FROM THE AURORA,
More cf <s Moral Honesty .”
The advocates for Britifu tyranny,
have nov/ hail full time ;o confider the
‘‘ moral hortefty” of making diltinc-.
tion; between dollars ojj (here anddoL
lars at sea, and we would alk their fac
totum, Phineas Bond , what they have
made of computation ? Can they find
the difference, or is there any diltinc
ilon between the value and the right of
property, whether the owner Rands on
the wharf just ready for an excurfior*
: \ T ew-Catt!e. or the nioisent after he
sets his foot oft board the boat ?
Cuiacntsof America, who are not
Britilh agents nor lories, ask ycur
ieivcs ftrioullv the queftipn, ought
you to be iiahic to imprilonment a*d
robbery, in one liiuaiio* more than
another, on tne water than on your
ffiorcs ? Every man, however obstinate
in! prejudice, mult fee this truth—re
fteffi a moment ferioudy, and then an*
fwer yourfelvcs, is there the lead jike
tlhocd of obtaining a relloration of this
equal right from the generosity of Brit
ain— is there any profpeCt of peace to
the world, until the laaraumc tyranny
of Britain is annihilated ?
There cannot be any “ moral” dif
ference between the property of /the
dollar, whether on land cr water—and
by a piogrelhve ratio in a thousand
dollars, or a thousand millions—-and
if you cannot Ite any more right or
“ moral hoistliy,” which a Brttilh a
gen: has to rob you on the Delaware,
than in Market street, why in the name
of common lenfe, Ihould the Brttilh
government have more claim to con
fiscate property on the Teas than to
seize it in your warc-houfe.
Can you find the difference in your
mind ?
The tory papers, in defending the
Britilh right of learch, and the seizing
of every person found on board an
American veffcl, who happened to
have been born in Britain defends c
qually the right of a Brititlh frigate to
anchor at our wharves, and to fend her
crew ashore to take every Engliftiman
in the city —do the tory papers, whillfc
they pretend to be the exciufive advo
cates of die foreign merchants, only
aim a blow at them, as the agents of
the Britilh governmeht? Such, indeed
anocar* to us to be the case; for wba:
greater service can thelc men render
the Britifii miniffry, or how more ef
fefUy ruin the American merchant,
than by the arguments lately brought
forward in fome of the federal papers.
Give Great Britain the present right
or search, and you then eftabhlh a
rifthi to all the vexations and murders
already committed and to be commit
; ted—for the right to search, acknow
ledges a right to enforce that search,
arid then what becomes of all the peti
tions of the merchants to congrels two
years palt, or of the refemments of the
American people at the recent mur
ders—both mult be completely ridi
culous.
There cannot then be any (t moral”
