THE hand of Providence is visible, diftri boting j’lftice, in the difaliers which are attend ing England. Oppressive in her government, slid corrupt in her councils, it might have been rAAed the day of retribution would arrive, md that iter prosperity would terminate. Im nerfed in debt, inilead of making honed provi ;,,ns for its equitable difeharge, her politicians ,' n ly puzzled their brains with difeovering new ilvits for additional taxation. By a reference to a statement made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, it will appear, that the National Debt of Great-Britain increa ses ad valorem, eighteen millions of pounds an nually. In the year 1804, her public fund ed debt amounted to the enormous sum of £.583,*>08,978 1 In conformity with several afts of Parliament, previously to that year en acted, £.6,851,192 are made applicable to the idduftion of that funded debt. By referring to the statement before alluded to, it will be aScertained, that the interell char gable on the sum due by England ; and the con comitant expences of the finking fund, amounted in the sforefaid year to -C.24,110,4-75 ! The furn allowed to difeharge, in part, the national debt, annually, is not equivalent to one fourth part of the yearly intereli nrifi'ng from that debt, and the charges attending the finking mid. There is open and palpable corruption ir my ideas of it are totally erroneous. Such a yftem will never difeharge her fair and equita lie debts however. One, after perilling a statement of inch acts, might be disposed to interrogate in the olio wing manner : If the debt of Great-Bri :a.n increases so enormously, to what special lurpdfes is the vaffc quantities of money amassed *om general taxation, applied ? The liard-la i'oring manufaflurer, the induiierious tiller of he earth, and indeed the poor of every defcrip ionin England,’ would nothefitate ah instant to Sake to this question a proper reply. They would point to the coxcomica! nobility fquan ilering thousands upon ostentatious trifles, and sffure you, that they receive more than one half ?f the profits arising from their annual labor.— They would then lignalize pride clothed in the’ acerdotal garb, and deprecate the injustice of ythes. America has been denominated an i%lum for the oppressed ; and what but nccef ity and aggravation could induce such avail r-aiber of emigrants to fly to our flumes across ns Atlantic. Great-Britain is corrupt as a na ion ; and the laws of a corrupt government are fit the vehicles of opprefilon. He, upon whom y e wiles of corruption operate, is a.Tuietfly op veiled. But the long catalogue cf -crimes, which us blackened that intolerant and overbearing xrnntry will ensure to her that punilhment which njuftice she deserves. Egypt has vvitneffed her iugracc ; and (be has been driven from the Moravian sea. Ruffian and Prussian inimicality was never so fervently evinced toward Bonaparte, !? at the present time it is displayed toward -ngland. Their being compelled to evacuate ionth America, by the Spaniards, is another vil which no doubt will be iucceeded by others swave propels wave ; or as her crimes and cor 'd* arts have continued to follow each ether i>r centuries.
