PROPOSALS - Ftr publishing by Subscription , THE WORKS Os )R. BENJAMIN IRANK UN, PHILOSOPHICAL, POLITICAL, AND I.ITFK ART. Hominum rcrumque reperior . This edition will be published from the copies revised and cor rected by Dr. Franktin, the cor rections of which are in the band waiting of the author, and may be seen by any genilemanj in die possession of the editor of the Aurora. The publication of the writ ings of Dr. Franklin in a com plete edition, was long contem plated by the late Benj. Frank lin Beache, bU grand-son who ranscribed the copy which was Revised to Mr. VV. Temple Franklin, for publication. It was originally designed to publish that corrected edition in three languages, & in England, Ger many, France, and America,at the same time ; this expectation was frustrated bv the divisee (W Temple Franklin who it is as serted with great apparent proba bility, sacrificed the work and the honorable trust reposed in him, for money, to die mortal ha tred of the English Ministry a geinst the deceased sage. As soon as this fact was known, the editor of the Aurora turned his attention to the collection of every paper and circumstance which could tend to preserve and do honor to the memory of a man to whom particularly America owes so much, and who, as he was among the first who reflected back lustre to his native country, must continue to be ranked to the. latest posterity, among its greatest benafactors and orna ments. Early admiration of Dr. Frank lin ; Educated in veneration and reverence of his character A other incidental- circumstances not necessary to m pointed out, have concurred to favor the col. lection of the best materials tfvat could be obtained, after the sa crifice of the work by the devisee. With some industry, and with some expense the editor has pos sessed himself, not only of the copy with the corrections and additions in Dr. Franklin’s band writing ; but also of several arti cles which hare never appeared in any former collection, and of some which have never appeared in print. Proposals would have appeared long since in this city, hail not an advertisement of an intended e tfition, been published in the In, glish prints ) the present editor thought it might be possible that the edition advertised was that which Mr. Temple Franklin was entrusted with ; but it n*\v ap pears that the English edition is only anew addition of the for mer compilation with some small and ’ tions ; but still deficient, on a <:0 ■’ parison with the correct pa in the hands of the editor, i ie whole will now be carefully <t> ued, and the work executed in style, woithy of the great pa. Sr rch of American liberty and t.yjstie of the American press. The additional papers will torm at least a ‘volume, perhaps more— the authentic papers already printed, form three , and it is intended to begin with the se cond volume, which will be put to press immediately, and to pub lish the biography last, so that *ucli additional particulars as nav throw any useful light on the life of this great man, may be en. grafted on the memoir ; to oh. tarn which and other important materials, the editor will spare neither pains nor expence. Gentlemen who may be pos. ceased of authentic or original pa 's, or ci>ri impendence ot I)r. F. “ender public service by ‘■ating them to tlic edi- CONDITIONS.
