They bad complete possession of the island. Some Turks in the forts would be compelled to surrender to them, and it is said, they would suffer immodinto denlli. A VERY superior Steam Saw Mill has been recently erected in the vicinity of the CITY ©E IGUULNT, as the most eligible situation for a business of the kind on the Atlantic alum s of the United Stau s. Possessing all the advantages of an in. eahaust»Me fuppiy of the finest yellow pitch Piue and Cypress 'l imber, built on a fine bluff*, with thirteen feet waterclosetoit, andanaiurel cove for the reception of Iqgs. The present owners not having it in theit power to Bestow that attention to it which A concern of such magnitude requires, are desir ous of seffutf the mhete, or a part of their inter* est in «t, Jnd now ttffev if j*r tale at a very low valm>;ionJand much less than such a structure could be completed for. Tlit-re haa just been added to it a very aupe* rior Rice Peumttu/f JHactunf, Capable of Jik charging at least 50 tierces of dear? rice per day ; and a Corn-Mill, all act iu motion by the same engine. The Saw -Mill is upon a new principle, by the late renowned Civil Engineer, Mr. REN* NIE of London, who bent out one Cf his beat Wv>rkm<-n to superintend its erection. It can now cut with 48 saws, and may be made to drive twice that number. The Steam Engine is perhaps the best in the United Stales, made by Messrs. BOLTON li WAIT, of Soho, near B'rmmghftm; and erected under the inspection of their beat fore man, sent out expressly for that purpose, A wonderful ♦ xpence is saved in fuel, as the saw-dust h orn the pitch-pine is found to answer instead of tire-wood, ami is carried to the mouth of the furnace from the pit by elevators now in use. ’ The Rice Machine is also on a new principle and found by experience to answer better than any yet in use. Tlie quickness and regularity of the movement, producing it of k superior brightness without breaking the gram l'he mill -s situated on a tine Greek, called Cat-I(c«d, on a branch of * the Altamaha Kiver, and only about hah a mile front Darien. Sea Vessels, whose dtaught of water enables them to go to the wharf at Darien, can load at the Mill, only a short distance off', with great facility ; xs an eticlined plane from the mill, will enable them to receive the lumber in>o their bow ports, almost without expence: w i, th* null, as now in operation, can furnish 4j ,.l. feet of plank per day, which may be men an d if found necessary; the power being amply sufit* ' cient. l'he lumber sent framthis establishment since it went into operation has been allowed to be superior in quality and regularity in sawing. l'he commissioners of the Navy of the (taL ted States have approved of the ship plaints, furnished from it, and it is highly probable will give it a preference in future contracts. « It has also beer, seen and justly admired in New-York and Philadelphia. The prospect of a renewed intercourse with the British Writ India Islands, renders this establishment a desirable mode of investment— offers, in that case, having been made from JAMAICA ALONE, for about half of all the pro. duce of the saw-mill. The preoenl owners'have no objection to con* limte interested in it to a certain extent, but their other avocations preclude their personal attention to it.
