As various individuals, who are ac
tually employed in the Y’isit Do ts at
the port of Havana, in he capacity of
interpreters, make it quite a common
practice to take up the letters thin
come from the United States, anu in
fact demand them from the Captains
the moment they come in and -■"■bur
order pretence ol having them c -n-
veyetl to the post office, where seldom,
or ever they are sent, being malicious
ly kept if noacknuwldgement, orenn-
fribution can be exacted, and very of
ten destioycd by pet'ilqggirig under
strappers through spite, or otherwise,
to the great disadvantage of the per
sons concerned. 1' would therefore,
be highly commendable to impress up-
m the mtnds of the captains coining
o Havana, to deliver the letters to
nobody, but be careful to have them
lodged at the counting house uf their
consignees, where every one may call
lor them, and by that means effectual-
ly avoid the above infamous practice.
