C ONCENTRATED Disinfecting Solu

Prepared of uniform strength, by tin* New
England Chemical Company, ceordingto the
formulary promulgated by the philosophic
discoverer, A. G. Labarraqi'K.
This article having bee u made use of, in nu
merous iuritune- a, by scient tfic persons of the
vary ficst st tiding, and always with certain
success, the following modes of applying the
Chloride, may bo robed onus proper utidben

With, a sprinkling of water mixed with one
f rtietli of Chloride, the-stench can be in*

ers, cess-pools, drains, wutcr-c'.osets,markets,
stalls for meat umi tisb, slaughter-houses, and,
in general, all pluccs infected with aninml
exhalations.
For foul-ulcers, a wine glass of Chloride
must be mixed with, ns much as five times
that quantify of pure water, utid pledgets of
lint must bo dipped io*o this wash and then
laid over the ulcers. T his dressing to be re
Hewed twice a day. If the sore becomes red
and angry the wash of live parts water must
be still further diluted ; if, on the contrary,
the sore does not clr.ngn its appearance, it
must be dressed once or twice with Chloride
and water, half and half, so as to dispose ton
slight inflammation,which is indispensable to
convert fetid anti running ulcers into simple
sores. The’healing then progresses rapidly.
T:,c moment the Cldur'idels nppljpd upon un

schools is the only mi nus by which education
run be obtained ; the lesson there taught, the
proficiency there made, are the indispensable
requisites of an educated man. Had these

I horn that till* wunts of a new country just,
emerging from its primeval state, called for
a course of exertion and instruction widely
different from those which aro suitable l«.r
the inhabitants of tho old world. Here the
active industry and productive labour of every
individual was put in requisition, and Ins
scholastic studies terminated, of necessity, ut
an ago, w hen, ;'i Europe, education was so
lur from being finished, that it was scarcely
begun. As soon us a young mini had obtain

or physic, or to be engaged in agricultural or
mcchuiucal employments. Such were his
occupations nt a period of life when in Eng.
land ho would havo been toiling at tho forms
of a grammar school. The conscquenco is
obvious. Our youth would fur surpass those
of Europe in the precocity and variety ofthoiv
attainments ; m the versatility and prompt
ness of their facilities; in the command of
their resources, ami tho facility of applying
their | evvers, physical and intellectual, hy
any sidj* ct. On the other hand, they would

in tin* fiulnls of a fixed and systematic course
of study ; in the more abstruse brandies of
science ; uud, generally, in any eminent suc

can infer from this that the American mind
is inferior to that of Europe ; that American
genius cnniiot'uour as high, ami delve as deep

dapled to the emergencies of our country, and
fully equal to them is placed beyond tlio reach
of cavil or doubt hy our splendid nnd unex
ampled success in establishing, extending,
maintaining and improving this great empire.
Has it been hy un inferior race of men ; by

have grown in hulf a century to a strength
and importance which place them in the first
rank of the nations of the earth? Has it
