which should unite with this body in memor
izing Congress respecting the American

ly.
Mr Williams, of Utica, New York, oflVr-
ed a resolution proposing an inquiry into the
moral influence of our Manufactories upon
the operatives therein employ' d, and that a
Committee bo appointed whose duty H shall
ho to report a statement of flirts, verified as
it could be by 25 years experience.
On motion of Mr. Dwight,of Massachusetts
it was rcenlved, that tho members of the
Convention he requested to furnish as early
ns possible to the several Committees of th"
Convention such satistirnl information on th**
subjects referred to them, as ina** he within
their knowledge.
On motion hy Mr Carey, of Philadelphia,
it was resolved, that a Committee ot* appoin
ted to inquire into the foundation of the
charge made against the American System,
tlint it nromotcH hinngdling.
Mr, Shaw, of M .Vsachusetts,expressed his
apprehension that ihe Convention were low-
crlng their dignity by investigating all the
trilling subjects brought forward. A suffi
cient quantity oflmsmiisH, in all conscience,
was carved out. The Convention should
adjourn until to morrow, and give tune the
Committee to prepaVt* their reports.
Mr. lluel.ofNevv York, from the C mmit-
te<*, made a furl her report, recommending the
appointment of a permanent Committee of
correspondence and statistic and a Commit-
tee to rophrt on the subject ot tho currency,
as affected by the Tariff; and a committee
on the subii ct of tnudd*-i, logwood, and oili
er vegetable dyes. The report was accepted
and Committees ordered to appointed

We are authorized by Mr. Woodward to
state, with respect to the personalty which
took place in the Tariff Convntion : That
before tho meeting of tho Contention, the
public prints of Boston and the cast had in
dulged in language with respect to the dele
gation of tho city of New York, as indeco
rous and uhusive as it was wholly gratuitous
and unnrovoked, and that no respectful reply
or qualification had been given to this course
by any paper or individual in that quarter.—

thing disrespectful from that quarter ; and
when the gentleman from that city thought
proper to indulge in misapplied levity ns to
the various memorials drawn hy lorn on the
subject of domestic industry : and when he
