Some men say they are too poor to
take a paper; but we say that any man
who can afford to smoke a 21 Cents cigar,
and chew ten cent plug-tobacco can take
a paper and pay for it very easy.

to that effect will be presented to the

We regret to learn that there \v< re

Cape. Austin Moore, of Dry valley, laid
upon our table last Tuesday the finest
specimen of a peach that we have ever
seen. It measured 111 inches in circum
ference.
The way some people lounge around
town, play marbles and whittle boxes,
don’t indicate hard times. For when a
man can live without work, it is as much
as to say, “I have plenty at home, and
have no need to labor.
Cash for Wheat.
We pay cash for wheat; arid would in

On Monday last, duiing the exercises
of a singing school at South Carolina

lightning struck a tree to which the horse
of Mr. James Murphy was hitched, and
running down the tree, the horse was in
stantly killed.

Wc were pleased to sco our friends
Messrs. Jo, 1 Withers and D. 0. Sutton,

To make first rate peach pickles, wash
them thoroughly, put them into a jar,
any size you please, until it is full, then
fill up with rain wuter. In a short, time
you will have as good pickles as an epicure
could desire. The rain water with the
peach, makes its own vinegar. Try it,
and you'll thank us for telling you of it.
W invite the spctial attention of
parties interested, to the communication
on our first pace, over the signature of
“Charlie." The writer is a prominent
eitizeu of Home, and is a friend of both
the parties to which ho refers. Wo think
his suy gestiun to both parties to “quit
this foolishness,” is correct, timely, just
and true. May they hoed it!
The “Baby's Best Friend" is Dr. Bull’s
Baby Syrup, since it maintains the Baby’s
health by keeping it free from Colic,
Diarrhoea, etc. IViee 25 cents per bottle.
Rev. J. M- M. Caldwell, President of
the Home Female College, and Professor
Hints of the Mu- ica i department t hereof,
have been in our midst for several days
the past week.
The former gentleman preached several
sermons in the Presbyterian church during i
his visit. W e lord not the pleasure ol
hearing only his sermon on Sabbath, on
the text, “Let this mind be in you, which
was in Christ Jesus.” It was a forcible !
and well illustrated presentation of our j
duty, to be like-minded with Christ, in
promptness, devotion, zeal, fidelity and
perseverance. May he long live as an
educator of youth, and a faithful minister
of Christ.
Neural,ia is a very eon men disease, j
and gives.excrutinting poin. The follow
ing is said to give in-tart. relief. Put two
tabiespn n-ful of cologne into a bottle
with two teaspoonsful oi line salt and
shake well t; gather. Apply it to the
nostrils in the same way as you do a
smelling bottle, and the pain sto; s at
once. Try it.
The preaching at the Presbyterian
church in this place still continues, and
much interest is felt by the community in
its services. The earnest and powerful ef
forts of the pastor, llev. W. A. Milner,
will bo like bread cast upon the waters to
be seen after many days. The Hev- James
W. Jones, of Ccdartown, preached on
Monday night. 11 is effort was one well
calculated to deeply impress an audience.
His fine elocution and admirable, voice
makes him at once an attractive speaker.
We trust, he may long be spared to labor
in the Master's v neyard, and predict for
him a brilliant future as a pulpit orator.
The question has often been asked by
those interested, “Can I. have my gray
hair restored to its natural color, without
coloring the skin? and can my thin h cks
be thickened up?” Weanswer, “Itcan;"
and would advise you to read a treatise
on the hair, which is published by li. P.
Hall it Cos., Nashua, N. 11., who send it
free, upon application. They arc the
prop] ietors of Hall’s Vegetable Riciliian
Hair Rcncwer. We learn from it, the
hair, in a perfect state of health, is con
stantly falling out, and new hairs grow
from the same tubes; ! ut, in case of any
disease of the scalp, or by the use of
a coho'ic preparations, the hair-tube be
comes contracted at its mouth, and pro
vents the new fofiicle from reaching the
surface. Thc.r preparation will create a
perfectly healthy condition of the scalp,
and, by its tonic properties, will preserve
and strengthen the roots tf the hair.—
