Who was “sold?”
One evening last week a member of the
Town Council was standing in front of
llrariner & Bros., when a man from Ala
bainS, came driving up Main street ori an
ox wagon, with a cream colored ox in the
lead, and of course a piebald • ne at the
off wheel, >'js wagon loaded with cotton.
After gettinA his team on the cross-walk,
leading from the store to the hott 1, he
ordered Duke and Dar ing to halt. '1 he
Councilman requested him to more his
team forward .. little, so as not 1 1 obstruct
the crossing; also informed him if the
Marshal found his team on the walk lie
would fine him a dollar. To this gentle
remonstrance, the man from Alabama
simply remarked “1 don’t intend to stop
very long no how,” arid started for the
Postoflice, saying, “I want to mail a
letter, and intend to do it.” The genial
and accommodating clerk took the letter
and dropped it in the letter box, when
the man from the State where they never
hang people walked off to his team, and
giving Duke and Darling a swipe with
his Alabama whip drove off towards
Trion, muttering, “I wish they would
finil me a dollar, tor I hain’t got any, and
[ want one.” The Councilman threat
ens to re.-ign.

Woman’s Best Friend.—To veliev
the aching heart of woman and bring joy
where sorrow reigned supreme, is a mis
sion before which the smiles of kings
dwindle into utter insignificance. To do
this is the peculiar province of Dr. J.
Bradfield’s Female Regulator; which
from the numberless cures it lias accom
plished, is appropri tely styled Woman’s
Best Friend. The distressing complaint
known as the “whites," and the various
irregularities of the womb, to which
woman is subject, disappear like magic
before this wonderful compound, it is
i prepared by L. If. Br.ulfield, Druggist,
I Atlanta, Gut, and sold at $1.50 dor bot
tle by respectable Drug tnetiAverywhere.
Physicians prescribe it. its action is
prompt, sure and decisive.

you, for one ol 'my family with t lit utmost
satisfaction, and have recommended it to

tire now in perfect health, and are able to

cordially recommend it to the public.

Our attention lias been called to anew
cooking utensil, recently invented, which
makes basing a pleasure, instead of a
dreaded necessity; the invention of which
lias conferred an everlasting blessing upon
every housekeeper We refer to the
Patent Centennial Cake and Bread Pan,
with which, by simply raising a hook
you can remove the sides of the pan
from the cake instantly, without break
ing or injuring it in the least, thus eu
ab.ing you to ice and frost it while warm.
To remove the tube in the centre, insert
a knife in the slot in the top of the tube,
arid simply give it a half turn, and it wih
drop out. It is also provided with a
slide on the bottom, so that when you
remove the tube you can close the hole,
making a pan with plain bottom, for
baking jelly and plain cakes, pudding,
bread, cte , thus practically giring you
two pans for the pi in: of one.
The Centennial Cake Pan is highl
recommended by the ladies as being the
best, and most convenient pan ever intro
duced. They are made of Russia iron,
are mote durable, and will bake your
cafes more even y, and a much nicer
brown than you can hake them in the old
fashioned tin cake pans.
These goods arc sold exclusively
through agents to families, and every
housekeeper should by all means have
them A splendid opportunity is offered
to some reliable lady or gentleman can
vasser of this county to secure the agency
for a pleasant and profitable business.
