IN MEMOS! AM.
Death is a physical experionoe, a cessa
tion of physical lifo. It neither rewards
nor punishos. It serves only ns a com
mittee of introduction. It is not fearful.
"Life t* roaL life ts earnest,
Tho grave ia not its goal,
Duat thou art, to dust roturuest,
VYaa not spokou of tho soul."
It is life, therefore, that is fearful, and
■ot death. Life is more than death;
therefore the wise live well.
The deooased, Mrs. Margaret Sturdi
vant, was wise. She was born in South
Carolina, Jttae 25th, 1830, married to
James G. Sturdivant in Campbell county,
Georgia, Decern bar 3d, 1846, and was
regenerated and joined the Methodist
Episcopal Church, South, in September,
1848. It is not often wo meet with one
in whom tho galaxy of Christian graoes
shine with such brilliancy.
Faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance,
Godliness, kindness, charity, meekness,
and patience, coalesced to make one among
the brightest examples of ohti.tiun char
acter, conjugal fidelity, motherly love
and faithfulness, neighborly respeot and
helpfulness, which it has been our good
fortuno to know. Death has introduced
her to the enjoyment of heaven's unend
ing hlesedness. which is the harvest of
life's sowing. She is forever garnered in
her father's house- She is at homo. She
was acquainted there. O, what a blessing
to the world is such a life, and such a
triumphant death! for sho died well.
She has left the church tho legacy of a
faithful Christian life, and peaceful death,
the logic of which is mote powerful than
creed or cathedral. She has left her
declining consort, and partner in life's
conflicts and triumphs, the memory of a
long journey together, filled wilh love and
joy, with an occasional cloud, and that
with silver linings, and the bright pros
pect of a speedy re union in heaven. Sho
has left her children a life filled with
counsel, example, and kindness, ami the
paaiing request, “Join me in the beautiful
city.” Home.

A SCHOOLBOY ON CORNS.
Corns arc of two kinds —vegetable and
animal. Vegetable corn grows in rows,
and animal corn grows on toes. There
arc several kinds of corn; there is the
unicorn, capricorn, pop corn, corn
dodgers, fisld corn, and the cun on your
feet, which hurts you in >s\ It is said, l
believe that goplicrs like corn, hut
persons having corn do not like to ‘go
for,* if i hey can help it.
Corns have kern Is, and some colo.ols
have corns. Vegetable corn grows on
the cars, but animal corn grows on the
feet at the other end ol' the body.
Another kind of corn is the acorn; this
grows on oaks, hut thore is no hoax about
the corn. The acorn is a corn with ari
indefinite article added. Try it and see
Many a man when he has a corn wishes it
was an auOi n.
Ifa farmei manages well, he can get a
good deal o'corn on an acre, hut I know
ol a farmer that has ooe corn fi.at makes
the biggest acber on his farm. The
bigger crop .ol vegetable corn a man
raises the better he likes it; hut the
bigger crop of animal corn ho raises, the
better he does not like if. Another kind
of corn is the corn dodger. The wa*. it
made i- very simple, an 1 is as follow-
that is if you want to know: You go
along the street ami meet a man you
know has a corn and a rough character;
then you stop on the toe that has the
corn on it, and sec if you don't have
occasion *o dodge. In that way you will
find out what a corn dodger is.
