A. J. Grswford, deputy United States
marshal, and Itia posse, tried to arrest
Jim Findley, who osoaped from the court
house in Atlunta a month or two ago.

house of John H. Stewart, for assisting

and Stewart was woundod. No other
damage was done, except to clothing.
Findley escaped.
New oil wells opened in May last, in
Warren county, Pennsylvania, yielded
from 2,000 to 3,000 barrels of oil a day.
each. The now oil field produoed 25,000
, gallons daily, aod the total yield was
105.000 gallons per day. Tha prioe fell
below 50 cent* a barrel. But the wells
are fuiling; they produce now only about
70,000 gallons daily, and oil is worth $1

and Tyra Nash, were sent to the Penrose

The male Indians on the reservations

President Arthur should die, there will

The total net revenue of the govern

Judge Freeman, assistant attorney

by arranging several small mirrors so that
all of them will reflect the sun’s rays on

The United Stales Supreme oourt will
soon lie called on to decide tho constitu
tionality of the law authorizing the re
issue of greenbacks once redeemed. If
the decision is against the act, the
volume of greenbacks will probably
diminish, slowly but steadily.

A letter pouch on its way from New
Orleans to Washington was lost in Atlanta

Curtis Beall, a negro living in Harris
eounty, was sometime ago appointed
postmaster at Ladrange, but has not yet
taken the office, there being some trouble
about the bond. The people are very
indignant, and will try bard to prevent
his confirmation by the senate.
The editor of tbe Dublin Gazette has
seen a veritable jointed snake. A stone
thrown at it broke it in two, and tho
parts reunited, it was then taken to
town, broken into numerous fragments,
and the pieoos orawled to the proper place
and stuck together. On its tail was a
horn as iong and sharp as a needle.
The police of Atlanta are looking for a
oouple who came fiom Opelika, Ala. The
man is 50, the woman 16, and they claim
to be married. In Opelika they quarreled
frequcntl because tho yor ng men of the
place paid her attention, The day after
they left a youns man's corpse was found
near town, oovered with leaves, and ap
pearances pointed to th s oouple as the
murderers

Horseback riding as an art and as a
