The exorcises at the Presbyterian

varied and interesting. Hugh McClure's
children were baptized, Kev. Mr. King,

appropriate remarks, installed Rev. W
A. Milner as the pastor of the church;
and the sacrament of the Lord’s supper

The Ladies’ Floral Cabjnet for May is,

touching; "Flowers and Insects” and
“The Wonders of the Vegetable King

attractive style, and the many short
a. tides giving directions for the culture
of flowers must be very useful to the
ladies.

that have been thought to inhabit the

have raised considerable money for

to have ceased. A meeting was called

The seoond quatterly conference was
held at Ami church to-day by the

now he will. May God speed the day

Our community is very quiot, except
now and then you may see where some
youth in his madness of intoxication has
pulled down some neiithbor’s fence, and
you may hear of the vile cursing of the
neighbors from his defiled lips while in
this state. We do not know where the
liquor came from, whether from Sum
merville or not; we know one thing, it
was put to a bad use.

THE COUNTY RECORDS.
Editor Gazette:
Allow me through the columns of your
paper to say a word in reference to some
plan to be devised for the permanent care
and preservation of the county records.
We have incurred considerable expense
in the purchase of iron sales, one of which
has entirely failed to be a safe, and i no
more lit for a repository for the county
records than a dry goods box. We have
been sufficiently warned by Walker’s ami
Cherokee's misfortunes: it is high time
the mailer was being discussed and acted
upon.
I would suggest (he erection of a brick
vault (on the court bouse lot, am] not
nearer (bail thirty feet to the court house)
thirteen feet long, eight feet wide, ami
nine feet high above ground, with an urch
turned over the top, all to be laid in
hydraulic cement, ami no part of the
building, side wall or overhead, to be less
than two feet, or the length ol throe
bricks, in thickness; to be furnished with
a heavy iron door, two feet eight inches
wide by six feet four inches high, with
wrought iron easing twelve inches deep,
(which could be had of any manufacturer
of irou sales for about eighty five dollars)
with suitable bolts for fastening—door to
tie placed on the side and in the center of
the vuuit. This arrangement gives u
room riiue by four feet on the iu.-ide.
Place say five shelves in either end,
sixteen inches deep. This leaves an open
space four ) y six feet, where a small oil
stove could be placed, to be used wbeu
required to dry out any dampness that
might accumulate from time to time.
This building need not cost the county
more i ban two hundred and fifty dol'ars,
including a tin roof and a combination
lock, or about t! e price paid for the safe
in the Ordinary's office, which is now
worthless. This structure would be
eminently fire-proof, besides, it would
have more than five times the storage
capacity of any iron safe ever brought to
the county. This i a matter of vital
importance to one am! all, and whosoever
will let him speak. Citizen.
