Washington, Januaav 19.—The Presi

forbidding A. A. Harris, or any other ap
pointee of Gov. Bullock, to proceed with
the reorganization of the Legislature, as
the Georgia act as interpreted by the Pres -

the Legislature; and the United Stat< s

being only the tribunal that can try and
convict members of the Legislature who

ATLANTA FAOfiS AND RUMORS.
From the Constitution and the
telegraphic correspondence of the
Chronicle and Sentinel, we gather a
lot of items and speculations that may
prove interesting.
Bullock, although signing himself “Prov'-
sional Governor,” is still issuing commissi"
ions a9 ‘ Governor of Georgia.” He has
declared to some of bis minions, so the re
port goes, that “he means to rule or ruin
the State.” We have uot a doubt of it.
lie is offering every inducement to Demo
crats who have taken the oath to withdraw r.
Money and offices have both been offered.
He promises that if they will stand back
their disabilities will be removed, and they
finally admitted to their seats.
At the meeting of the military commis
sion on Friday, Stnotors W. T. Winn, A.
W. Ilolcome, W. J Anderson, B. B. Ilinton
and C. J. Wellborn, appeared. They were
represented by Judge Richard 11. ~Clark,
Judge John Collier and lion. Geo, N. Les
ter. Farrow appeard for the State, and
asked for a continuance on the ground that
1e and dn’t have his proof ready. The Senan
tors proprsed to admit the facts charged
against them, but the shoulder-straps cons
eluded to adjourn till next day.
The Chronicle says that Bullock & Cos.
tried to buy the Era but failed, (they have
bought it, though. —Eds. Tel. and Mest.),
and that the Intelligencer, in consideration
of all the State Road printing, is now eon
sidered the Bulloek organ. Blodgett and
others of that sort are said to write its
editorials.
It is believed in Atlanta that Brown,
Ilill, Akerman, Bryant, Caldwell, Holden
and other Republicans will soon attempt to
reorganize that party on the basis of op
position to Bullock. It is thought that Joe
Brown will resign his seat on the Bench,
and that Dawson A. Walker and John Un
derwood are candidates for the place.
A large number of Bullock’s Superior
Court Judges are in Atlanta, and, the
Chronicle charges, are energetically lobby
ing for their boss.
The House of Representatives, as it
stands at present, shows a considerable
majority of Democrats and conservative
Republicans, but Terry’s military com-
is relied upon to reverse these
figures.

My friends we advise all to go and give Andy a fair trial, and we know
that you will go away well pleased. We have been told that in the last six
months that Mr. Webb’s trade has doubled every month; and the reason
why, this house is the only house in Thoinastrn that is willing to divide
profits with the people. Ladies and gentlemen we know that if you will
give John N. Webb your trade as a great many of our friends have done in
1869, that you will come out like they did, with fifty dollars saved and the
same amount of goods bought at Webb’s as was bought at other places
before. This is true, for we have been told by the most reliable men in Up
son County that January, 1869, they set in to deal with Webb & Johnson
one year, and that they kept a close account of what they bought 1868 and
1869, and in 1869 with Webb & Johnson they saved clear cash fifty
dollars. So I think Ladies and Gentlemen that this is quite an item.
Allow me my triends and customers to thank you for your very liberal
patronage through 1868 and 1869. I wish you a happy new year and
continuance of your liberal patronage. Mr. W. A. Johnson with myself
promise our best efforts and services. JOHN N. WEBB
