A Cheap Hard Soar. — Many house
keepers in the country know how difficult
}r is to obtain a good article of ba*-soap.
The yellow soap sold at the stores cut soft
as cheese, and rubs away as easily, and
unless the housewife buys a box of soap at
it time, and piles it up in stacks in the attic,
or Rome other dry place, the yearly record
v ip show a goodly sunt paid out for soap
purchased by the bar. The following re
ceipt will prove a valuable item of econo*
wy: . -
’Four bars of yellow soap ; two pounds of
sol-soda : tluee ounces of borax ; one ounce
of liquid ammonia. Shaye the soap in thin
Alices; put it into eight quarts of soft water
(rain-water is the best). When the soap is
nearly dissolved, add the borax and sal-so
da ; stir it til all is melted. Pour it int»
a large tub or a shallow pan ; when nearly
cool add theamm mia slow >/, mixing it well.
Let it stand a day or two, then cut it into
cakes or bars, and dry in in a wartn place.
No better scan can be made to w> fib whitfc
clothes, calicoes, and flannels ; and it is ex

but three cents per pound, and is made in
less than half an hour. This recipe has

For jn thy bosom I fain would seek nly rest,
Doubt not but thine is a true love
As pure and holy as that from above

Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral,
For Diseases of the Throat and Lungs,
such as Coughs, Colds, Whooping
Cough, Bronchitis, Asthma,
and Consumption.
Probably never before in the whole history of
medicine, has any thing won so w idely and so
deeply upon the confidence of mankind, as this
excellent remedy for pulmonary complaints.
Through a long series of years, and among most
of the races of men it has risen higher and higher
in their estimation, as it has become better known.
Its uniform character and pow er to cure the va
rious affections of the lungs and throat, have
made it known as a reliable protector against
them. While adapted to milder forms of disease
and to young children, it is at the same time the
most effectual remedy that can be given for incip
ient consumption, and the dangerous affections
bf the throat and lungs. Asa provision against
sudden attacks of Croup, it should be kept on
hand in every family, and indeed as all are some
times subject to colds and coughs, all should be
provided with this antidote for them.
Although settled Consumption is thought in
curable, still great numbers of cases where the
disease seemed settled, have been completely
cured, and the patient restored to sound health
by the Cherrjf Pectoral. So complete is its
niasteiy over the disorders of the Lungs and
Throat, that the most obstinate of them yield to it.
When nothing else could reach tliem ; under the
Cherry Pectoral the}' subside and disappear.
Sinyers and Public Speakers find great
protection from it.
Asthma is always relieved and often wholly
cured by it.
lironchitis is generally cured by taking the
Cherry Pectoral in small and frequent doses.
SO generally are its virtues known, that we
need not publish the certificates of them here, or
do more than assure the public that its qualities
are fully maintained.
Ayer’s Ague Cure,
For Fever r.nd Ague, Intermittent Fever,
Chili Fever, Ileraittent Fever, Dumb
Ague, Periodical or Bilious Fever, &c.,
and indeed all tho ufTeelions which arise
from malarious, marsh, or miasmatic
poisons.
As its name implies, it does Cure, and does not
fail. Containing neither Arsenic, Quinine, Bis
muth, Zinc, nor any oilier mineral or poisonous
substance whatever, it in nowise injures any pa
tient. The number and importance of its cures
in the ague districts, are literally beyond account,
and we believe without a parallel in the history
of Ague medicine. Our pride is gratified by the
acknowledgments we receive of the radical cures
effected in obstinate eases, and where other rem
edies had wholly failed.
Unaeclima'ted persons, either resident in, or
travelling through miasmatic localities, will he
protected by taking the A GUP CUPP daily.
For JAre'r Complaints, arising from torpid
ity of the Liver, it is an excellent remedy, stimu
lating the Liver into healthy activity.
For Bilious Disorders and Liver Complaints, it
is an excellent remedy, producing many truly
remarkable cures, where oilier medicines had
failed.

they were painfully afflicting, have been radically
Cured in such great numbers in almost every sec
tion of the country, that the public scarcely need
to be informed of its virtues or uses.
Scrofulous poison is one of thfi most destruc
tive enemies of our race. Often, this unseen and
unfelt tenant of the organism undermines the con
stitution, and invites the attack of enfeebling or fe
tal diseases, without exciting a suspicion of its
presence. Again, it seems to breed infection
throughout the body, and then, on some favorable
occasion, rapidly develop into one or other of its
hideous forms, either on the surface or among the
vitals. In the latter, tubercles may be suddenly
deposited in the lungs or heart, or tumors formed
iu the liver, or it shows its presence by eruptions
on the skin, or foul ulcerations on some part of
the body. Hence the occasional use of a bottle
of this Sarsaparilla is advisable, even when no
active symptoms of disease appear. Persons nf
ilicted with the following complaints generally
find immediate relief, and, at length, cure, by the
tree' of this SARSAPARILLA: St. Antho

Rheum, Scald Head, Ringworm, Sore Eyes,

of Scrofulous disease. Also in the more con
cealed forms, as Jtyspepsia, Dropsy, Heart
Disease, Pits, Epilepsy, \euralyia, and
the various Ulcerous affections of the muscular
and nervous systems.
Syphilis or Venereal and Mercuric,l Dis
eases are cured by it, though a long time is re
quired for subduing these obstinate maladies by
any medicine. But long-continued use of this
medicine will cure the complaint. JLeucorrhcea
or Whites, Uterine Ulcerations, and Female
Diseases, are commonly soon relieved and ulti
mately cured bv its purifying and invigorating
effect. Minute directions for each case are found

A. A dressing which

healthy, and effectual
for preserving the
hair. Faded or gray
| Bg|a hair is soon restored
i° original color,
with the gloss and
freshness of youth.
Thin hair is thick
ened, falling hair checked, and bald
ness often, though not always, cured
by its use. Nothing can restore the
hair where the follicles are deiitroyed,
or the glands atrophied and decaj-ed.
But such as remain can be saved for
usefulness by this application. Instead
of fouling the hair with a pasty sedi
ment, it will keep it clean and vigorous.
Its occasional use will prevent the hair
from turning gray or falling off, and
consequently prevent baldness. Free
from those deleterious substances which
make some preparations dangerous, and
injurious to the hair, the Vigor can
only benefit but not harm it. If wanted
merely for a

iiothing else can he found so desirable.
Containing neither oil nor dye, it does
not soil white cambric, and yet lasts
long on the hair, giving it a rich, glossy
lustre and a grateful perfume.
