A HOUSE FROM YoUR LETHARGY, WHY
Sleei* Ye Longer ! —What has become of
the town council? Are they dreaming,
calmly dreaming life away ; and in the
plosive delirium* fai.ing to act and enforce
the ordinances. Why hold, the reigns and
refuse to drive ; and by so doing, quietly
submit to the decline and downfall of your
once moral and prosperous town. The
enforcement of the ordinances with vim
and vigor will insure domestic tranquility,
the peace, happiness, prosperity and safety
of the energetic and aspiring citizens will
he guarenteed, and the town will become
again a prosperous, flourishing and alive
place. Why sleep over the interest of your
town longer, thereby suffering to pass
unnoticed such diabolical conduct, as was
perpetrated on the square, in broad day
ight, on last Saturday. The vilest oaths,
the most frightful screams, the smuttiest
and must obscene language fell from the
lips of some licenscious. bully, drinking
desperadoes to the terror of the ladies and
the disgust and mortification of the good
citizens, and no effort was made by the
council, to cage and quiet the lawless ban
ditti. Shall such outrages he suffered
longer? Wake up councilman, you have
the power, apply the remedy. The happi
ness, peace, and prosperity of the town is
entrusted to your care. Enforce the ordi
nances and merit the pleasure of every good
citizen, and thereby advance the prosperity
of die town.

ggy* Judge G. J. Lewis, this week* showed
us some samples of his wheat. It is truly
floe, surpasses any wheat that we have seen.
It is the Lynchburg improved white
wheat; rust proof which instead of
deteuriating by being planted in this dim
at'*, gradually improves. It yields more to
the bushel and makes more and better flour
than any other wheat that can he raised.
The heads measures about three inches in
length, and contain from one to one hun
dred and fifteen fully developed grains,
and from three to seven well developed
grains in the mesh. Mr. A. C. Barron
also brought us a sample of his wheat,
which was very fine. Tlie heads measure
about 21 inches in length, and contain
about one hundred grains in the head. Ilis

Needed —The inhabitants of our little
town both white and black need a great
many tilings, but no one tHng so much, as
the Town Council need a marshal and
a “guard house.” We understand that
Mr. Caraway resigned his position as mar
shal, and the town is at present without a
marshal. If this he true, the council should
at once proceed to elect a good and efficient
man as marshal. They should also proceed
at once, to erect a “guard house” or a cala
boose for the imprisonment of drunk and
disorderly men on the streets. The council
at this time, have no place of their own, in
which to confine men, and their ordinances
are “dead letters” without it. On Saturday
a id Tuesday last, a marshal and “guard
house” or “calaboose” were preeminently
in demand. We hope that no more such
scenes will be w’tnessed here as was wit
nessed last Saturday and Tuesday There
is but one way to keep it down, and that
is to punish those who violate ycur ordi
nances. “Let us have Peace.” In order
to have peace, let us have the means of
insuring it, therefore elect an active mar*
shal, and erect a guard house at once.
4@y*On becoming sole Proprietor of the
Herald, it is not my purpose to abandon
the law. but to give it closer and stricter

would abandon the former. 'With thanks

of the same.

Allow me to call to my
PREPARATION OF COMPOUND EX
TRAtT BE (HU.
The component parts are BUCIIU, LONG
LEAF, CUBEBS, JUNIPER BERRIES.
Mods of Preparation. —Buchu, in vacuo.
Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a
fine gin. Cubeb.s extracted by displacement
with spirits obtained from Juniper Berries;
very little sugar is used, and a small pros
portion of spirit. It is more palatable than
aDy now in use.
Buchu, as prepared by Druggist", is of a
dark color* It is a plant that emits its Ira
grance ; the action of a flame destroys this
(its active principle), leaving a dark and
glutinous decoction. Mine is the color of
ingredients. The Buchu in my preparation
predominates ; the smallest quantity of the
other ingredients are added, to prevent fer
mentation ; upon inspection it will be found
not to he a Tincture, as made in Pharma
copoca. nor is it a Syrup-and therefore can
he used in cases where fever or infiamation
exist. In this, you have the knowledge of
the ingredients and the mode of preparation.
Hoping that you will favor it with a trial,
and that upon inspection it will meet with
your approbation,
With a feeling of confidence,
I am, very respectfullv,

WHITE WIRE CLOTHES LINES.
"lATE Leg leave to call your attention to an entirely new article known as “Patent
** Metallic White Wire,” possessing qualities which prevent it from ever corroding
or turning from its color during any number of years, and on which letters Patent have
been secured. It has been found to be the only article suitable for a Clothes Line. The
old fashion rope or chord always causes so much trouble and annoyance by breaking
rotting out, and discoloring clothes, and by being obliged to bo put up and taken down
every time used. With this Wire Clothes Line you have none ot these annoyances, and
when it is once put up it gives you no more trouble. After using it we are confident
you will fully corroborate the statement of thousands of others in its praise. Every
family should, and will eventually have one. It will not rust nor corrode, though you
may keep it in water for aDy length of time, even salt water. ’ ° J
SIX REASONS WHY EVERY FAMILY SHOULD HAVE ONE OF THESE PATENT
EVERLASTING WHITE WIRE CLOTHES LINES:
Ist. You never have to take it out of the weather.
2d. It will last fifty years or more.
3d. It is the cheapest Clothes Lines in the world.
4th. You cannot load it heavy enough with clothes to brake it.
sth. It does not in any way discolor, wear or injure clothes that are hung upon it.
Gth. It will save its price in saving clothes every six months you own it.
IRBY" 11. TRAILER, of Thomaston, Upson county, Georgia, is the authorized
