We hope we are now to receive regularly
as an exchange, the oldest (with one ex
ception, we believe) and best newspaper in
the South. The Mobile Weekly Register,
or ns It is sometimes called “John Forsyth’s
Paper. Terms, $2,50 a year. Triple
sheet, N. Y. Ilerald siac.
The Enquirer. Invaluable. We doubt
if there is a single publication in the
country that has received higher compli
ments from the entire Press, than this
newly created journal. It is the very per
sonification of typographical neatness, and
is edited and conducted with ability and
energy. Published semi-monthly, at 19
Courtland st., New York, at $1.50 a year.
The Medical Reformer and Progress
ionist is the name of a monthly magazine
now in its tenth year* of more than ordi
nary merit. It \Vill be found specially
attractive to the professional reader, and
cannot be I‘ead without profit by the non
professional one. We hope to receive this
regularly. J. T. Coxe, M. D., Fditor,

Tue Educational Gazette. C. 11.
Turner & Cos., Philadelphia. This i.s of
great value to both teacher and pupil.
Among the most important articles in the
number before us are short essays on In
tellectual Progress ; The Old Greek Myths;
Tales frbm the Talmud ; Genius; Signs of
Character ; Our School Lands, etc. Pub
lished weekly at $2 per annum;
Ballou’s Monthly Magazine for Au-
GUsT. —Prompt to time comes Ballou’s Mag
aJ ne for August, freighted with a remark
able etefe of good things in the shape of
reading matter. The opening article is an
illustrated chapter on bilUatds, and then
follows pictures of Havana, and several
engravings of interest to the general read
er. Among the stories are tvto sea-yarns
of the first quality, several for lady readers,
two for children, and tales of adventure and
daring that all must like. On the whole,
Ballou’s Magazine is about the best and
cheapest publication to be found in this or
any other country, for it in only $1,50 per
year, or 15 cents single copy, and is for
sale at every periodical store in the United
States’ Address Thornes & Talbot, Boston,
Mass.
Peterson’s Magazine for September is
already on our table. It is a wonder to us
how so excellent a periodical can be pub
lished at so low a price, but the explana
tion, we suppose, is in its vast circulation,
which is the largest, we believe, in the
country. The principal engraving in this
number is an exquisite one : it is called
“Kathleen,” and represents a beautiful
highspirited girl, the heroine of a chaining
novelet, begun in this number, “Kathleen’s
Love-Story.” The double-size colored steel
fashion plate is superb. There are some
fifty wood-cuts of dresses, bonnets, collars,
&c. One of the most valuable articles is
our “Ever} 7 Day Dresses,” illustrated, show
ing how stylish and fashionable dresses
mav be made at home, and economically.
“Peterson’s,” is the only magazine that
gives these articles, and one appears every
month. Every family should take this
magazine. Terms $2 a year, with liberal
deductions to clubs. Chas. J. Peterson,
3 6 Chestnut-st.. Philadelphia.

A STUBBORN FACT.
There is scarcely any disease in which purgative
medicines are not more or less required, and much suf

used. No person can feel well while a costive habit of

eases which might have been avoided by a timely use

Allow me to call your attention to my
PREPARATION OF (OIIPOI VD EX
TRACT BICIIP.
The component parts arc BUCIIU, LONG
LEAF, CTBEBS, JUNIPER BERRIES.
Mods of Preparation. y-l»uchu, In traCud
Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a
fine gin. Cubebtf extracted by displacement
with spirits obtained from Juuipor Berries;
very little sugar is used, and a small pro**
portion of spirit. It is more palatable than
any now iu use.
Buchu, as prepared by Druggists, is of a
dark color’ It is a phint that emits its lra
grauce ; the action ot a flame destroys this
(its active principle), leaving a dark and
glutinous decoction. Mine is the color of
ingredieuts. The Buchu in my preparation
predominates; the smallest quantity of tho
other ingredients are added, to prevent fer
mentation : upon inspection it will be found
not to be a Tincture, as made in Pharma
eoptea. nor is it a Syrup—and therefore can
be used in cases whdre fever or infatuation
exist. In this, you have the knowledge of
the ingredients and the mode of preparation.
Hoping that you will favor it with a trial,
and that upon inspection it will meet with
your approbation,
