Ihe fcand&lpus con du£t of Ferdinand VII. and those base and ferviie satellites who hav** co-operated to effab lifh the inquisition and absolute despotism, have exalnerated all those who were advocates ot the confutation of the Cortes, and affix iated them in feeiings with the caule of the Mexican patri ot-?, Creoles as well as Spaniards refidenr in America s and the depredations which the patriot privateers make with impunity on the public (hips of Spain, have di(concerted the partizans of the nr nopoliff. of Cadiz, and they (ay publicly that they arc a (ha loed to helot.,', to a government so imbecile as to be incompetent to defend their commerce against the insurgent privateers. It is now the genera! opinion, that the.cities of Mexico and Vera Cruz will before long be in pof i< llion of the patriots without filing a musket. SOUTH AMERICA. (Important communication) The following is an extract of a Tr uer from New Orleans, da ted the 28th 0! August : * A gentleman from Mexico, high in the circle of the Revo, lutioniits, is now here, on his way to Washington, with propo fils from the Patriots, to make full and immediate conipenfatton for all the claims of our citizens and country, on the government ot Spain, provided the United States will acknowledge the Re public of Mexico. An easy mode tins is of getting jußice, lb long withheld : but what a itigma will such an arrangement attach to old Caftikan honor ? The infant wipes away the re proach of pillage and injutlice from its parent! This gentleman mentions that nn Englilh noble man of talents, has had a meet ing with the Chiefs, that is the tb nerds, whom he has a (lured that Great-Britain waits only for the example of the United States to acknowledge the new Re public ; all the merchants and manufacturers of England are pressing the Government incef lantly to do so, thereby to open a fair and direct trade with that rich portion of the new world, as the only means of relieving their prelent diltrefs, attd pre serving and extending this lucra tive commerce. Ruflia as well as the other northern powers, it is (aid, will also acknowledge the independence of Mexico. All this appears to us highly proba ble. Spain will find too late that with nations, as amongst in dividuals, ‘ honefly is the U R policy.* As yer we have been as healthy as usual. j Algiers. We have a verv intercßing ar tick- on the luhwEt ot our rela tions with Algiers in the George town, (Coinmb.) hltffenger ot Wednesday lalt. We regret that at the late hour we observed if, neither rime nor room was alow ed to insert it entire. Us fub fiance is as follow? : Th.r the original treaty, Teh • ’ ted by com. Decatur, being loft in the Epervier, the ratification ol the president was affixed to an authenticated copy which had oet-n taken with a view to such a contingency. When this was rrefented to the Dey, he laid that his copy contained a ftipula. tion for the rtftoration of the veflels captured, after which a treafv was to be made oil the usu al terms —tl >:t is a peace was to be purchased by annual tribute. It is perfectly known that com. Decatur would not iiften to the former—though he agreed to give up tile v. fTels from courte fv—that the latter was not men tioned at ail. Iu this Rate the bufineftwas referred back to the president, to whom it is said the Dey wrote a letter in Arabic— the reply is supposed to have been carried out in the Spark, which failed a few days ftnee from New York; and it isexpec ted that his highneis has dimply the choice of abiding by the trea ty or of renewing the war. Happily the force we have in the Mediterranean is competent fi r the latter, i( inch is the choice of his highness. English absurdity . invention and credulity —- (cne example out of many : ” .LONDON, July 24. Some additional patters have to day been received from the United States, with-private com munications adverting to a situa tion of affairs of considerable importance. It is laid that the unambitious Charaflerof joitph, ex king of Spain and the Indies, has been powerfully worked up on, by a numerous body of Ge nerals, who having fled to Ame rica for refuge, are uneasy at the Rate of inaction to which they have been reduced. Those per- Tons, we are told, have urged Joseph to resume his pretensions as Ring of the indies, and have offered to unite their means with those of the insurgents of Mexi co, to drive the Spaniards from their colonies, arid to cffabhfli a mighty empire on the flipres of j the Pacific. We are further in | formed that nothing has pre vented the immediate engage ment in this enternrize bur there fufal, on the part of the Govern ment of the IJnittd States, to undertake any otlenßable co op ! eration.
