THE ATLAS,
A Select Literary and Historical
JOURNAl.
Published every Saturday at So. 16, Merchants'
Exchange, New York.
A NEW’ volume was commenced on the I5tb
of September, 1892. By an increase in
the size^f its pages ; the omission of commercial
•natters, anif of all advertisements other than
those respecting literature and novelists; and by
a more condensed plan of recording whateverre-
Vilcs to the American continent; it will comprise
one-fourth more of Literature anil Foreign Intel
ligence than any previous volume. The paper,
elegantly executed in the quarto form, paged for
binding, and having a copious index and hand
some fitlo page, is not less adapted to the Jjbrary
than to current use. Rs plan and arrangement
ire original aud peculiar; and by" its labored
comparison ofautborities and condensed reportof
events, the ATLAS furnishes a more lucid and
convenient history of the times—par ticolariy of
the important events transpiring iu Europe, and
inore especially in Great Britain and France—
than, it is believed, can bc.fouud in nnyotkersiu-
gle publication. As one object of the Atlas is to
nrukhinformation in politics, without reference
to party differences, extracts arc made from the
publications of each of the leading parties of
Great Britain ; ,aud consequently natives of “the
fast anchored isle,” who have chosen this contin
ent for their abode, may find iu its columns tin-
most important information from the land of their
birth, iu. tinctured by the partialities of Tory, Rad-
" :al or \\ big; while readers byfwhom these trails
ttantic divisions unheeded, willfind the Europe
an news so ejected and arranged as to pre-eiit
in a condensed form a perfectly plain and intel
ligible history. The Contiiictuial and American
accounts ore given on the same plau.
A I irge portion of the ATLAS is dey.oted to
selections from the best Literary Journals, and
chiefly those of Europe. Among them may b<
anted the Quarterly Review, Edinburgh !»•
iew, Blackwood’s Magazine! New Monthly, Me
-opolitau. &c. Scc. &c, It will therefore re
commend itself net less as a Literary Maguzin
nd Re view, than as an Annual Register.
Its price, originally $5 per annum, has bet
reduced to $4, when payment is made inadvaru
or at first presentation of a bill: out of the I n
ted States, $5 per annum, in adeance. No sm
scriptions received for less tb^iu a half year, t.
discontinued except at half yearly periods, an
oil payment of dues.
Common of Macou, are notified that the
6tli instalment becomes due ou the Gth of Febru

pay the same to tho subscriber...-If not paid by
the 6th day of April ensuing, tho lots aud im
