There being-'no work of the kind in the South ern country, it is taken for granted, that no one will question the propriety of endeavoring to establish nu organ of good, so much needed.— We adopt the sendtneuts of no party; we arc pledged to no society, nor is it our wish to dic tate as to aiiy mode, nr course, to bo pursued in general or particular instruction. Our aims shall be, to open the avenues of thought on this important subject; and, by our efforts, endeavor to iiless the country of our adoption, tho laud of our children, the home that wo loval At a time when ruuuuablubor schools and other respectable institutions arc rising arouud us, it is rcasouablc to expect, that some mode of com munication, with regard to the success or failure of auy attempts is very desirable. Teachers need a periodical wherein they may express their views, and from which they may learn the views of others, and gather encouragement and guidance iu the arduous task of instruction- It is our-design, to collect information from every source, aud make our paper au organ commu nication betw ecn distant teachers aud the friends of edneatiou in general. Perhaps, at no period of our history, could there be a greater call for correct views on school-books and aparutus, necessary to facili tate the progress of the pupil. Wc will, there fore, endeavor to supply our columns with re spectable reviews of manuals, aud informntiou with regard to all the machinery of education. That our paper may interest every thinking mau, aud be au iumatc of the family circle, will embrace Agricultural aud Mochauical Essays Polite Literature, Essays ou moral aud Physical Science, Biography, original and selected Poe try, strictures on the best mode of Education Discipline of Schools, notices of Literary Insti tutions and Literary Works—in fine, auy subject calculated to interest the Planter, the Teacher, .Mother, Father, Guardian aud Student Disputed pniuts, iu Politics or Religion, shall bo entirely excluded; nor is the Academician ever to be the vehicle of malevolent iusinuations or ungenerous aspersions. It shall be the con stant atm of the Editor, to unite all conflicting interests and views, in the noble object of train ing children iu the ways ofwisdem; and diffus ing a taste for literature, the arts and sciences, which ever tend to make a happy and enlighten ed people. Advertisements of Teachcis, Schools, and Books, will be inserted at the usual rates, but this class of advertisements only; as it is intend ed to make the Academician subserve the pur poses of education and geucral information. The paper will be published semi-monthly, at Three Dollars per annum, payable iu ad vance, and will contain eight pages, in a good type, ou the. plan of the American Farmer- twenty ‘four numbers v>aking'a volume; which will be accompanied with an elegant title page, Editors, willing to ftirtlier the cause of educa tion in our State, will coufcr a favor by publish ing this prospectus, aud the favor will be rocip- rocatcp in any way desired. The eminent difficulty, at this time, to ascertain tho political tenets of certain aspirants, iu rela tion to raauy great uatioual questions, renders it necessary that the Editor should here remark, that ho liolds the doetriucs of the late Proclama tion of the President of the United States to be strictly orthodox, and such its were entertained and iuculcatcd by the immortal Washington. Ou these doctrines will depend the future destiny* of this great Confederacy. The Examiner will be open td a full, fearless, hut decorous discussion of ail miiUcrs relating to tbo affairs of the nation, the piiblic conduct of public men, aud the exposition of every mai-prac- tice iu office. * Ou the question of tho Bank the Editor lias reflected much; aud as he is not indebted to that institution for loans, or auy other favor, he will bo pardoned when lie states that it is his opiuiou tho fiscal relations of the Government nud Coun try require a Bauk of some sort; but' whether the present bo tho best, or whether it should be modified, will he the subjec’ of future discussion.
