The last number of Skinner's’ American
Turf Register and Sporting Magazine, has a
paper relating “a fact in natural history,” which
our leaders will no-doubt think som< what sur*
prising. According to the writer, the Turkey
Buzzard on having Ids eyes torn cut, will, if
you- a low it an oppoi tunity,' by putting its head
under its wing, furnish itself with a perfectly
new pair as readily and as certainly as a jug
gler conjuri s a t-ali .nro an empty cup. The
following is an abj g mint of .the story, which
we.find in a paper leccive’d by tile mail 'his
morning:
“A remarkable fact in natfoal history' is sta
ted in relation to that most useful bird the Tur
key Buzzard. It,confirms.(he impression that
it has the power of re-producing its tycs. The
statement is attested by the deposition of i\Iaj.
John Fillers, oifKaskaskia, Illinois. The Buz-
z trd was deprived of its ( y es by ripping them
open, *o that no part of the hall remained.—
The head of the bird was then placed undpr one
of-its wings, in which position it .remained a
few minutes, when raising its head, both cye&
were re-produced, perfectly sound, free fropv
blemish, and possessing in every degree the
power of .vision. Tin's comparatively cruel
experiment was repeated at- least filty times,
uniformly with the same result. The writer
also, being incredulous as to these facts, not
having witnessed them, made the experiment
himself upon another Buzzard, with similar efo
ibet. It is ascribed to the healing powers of
the r/otrn from the inside of the BuzzardVwing;
which is said to have cured several cases^ *>C
approaching blindness in men and. bor$**»* -
