I Acting in the place I did, it became my duty
| to solicit from you the authori'y with which, by
our church, you was vested as a minister thereof;
hut hoping 1 should at some time see you, I did
not write you on the subject. The year passed
off without such application, and as 1 have re
turned to the District. I take this opportunity of
dropping you a friendly line, craving as the offi

On the receipt of this, should you feel the spir

And the most favorable construction I cau put on

Dear Brother—Yours of the l-ltli ult. has

It is known to you that such stuff as this a
hounds in your periodicals, iu#your pamphlets,

grown up iu the AL E. Church iii^ftt unfortunate
day, when it has been ever popular to speak,
think, aud write in terms of abuse and evil sus

And upon this ground you may be in some de
gree excusable for the want of that charity that
would have led you to believe 1 would aud could
have answered your letter in the spirit of arhris-
tian minister.
It is irtio I have visitpd your father's house as
a minister ; dandled you on my knees, and im
parted to you the word of life from your earliest
days. Now follow me through the counties of
Franklin, Elbert, Oglethorpe and Monroe, where
I Invo spent nearly thirty years of my, Itfe* a

passing events, ho could not have been so surpris

! section to the P. O. Law, which had for its object, - nr

1 unconstitutional and nnjust to be listened to lor a mo-

j to all the applause they can obtain for their sagacity &
wisdom, ami their regard fer the interests of the. public,
by attempting to impose legs! provisions to dcpiiva
certain individuals of the use of a pul!::- highway
An ex-Governor, too, over the signature ot “Eye
Witness,” “Agent,” Ac. has vented In. -] Icon against
us, and endeavored to excite the public iu behalf of tho
.Mail Line. Notwithstanding these mighty influences
exerted against us. we think we shall be able to hold
on. Our Coaches are too new to be thrown out of
use, our horses too young and well conditioned to be
turned out to graze, onr improvements on the road aro
too numerous and costly to be abandoned, our arrange
ments generally are of too permanent a character, and
what is of most importance onr patronage fr altogether
too liberal for us to comply with th“ wishes of AJessrs.

I sympathise with them, we assure them that while they
| continue to run this road they will.always find u. along
side or as usual a little ahead, although we may not here-
! after take the trouble to pull them out of mud holes or to
I place them right side up.
We solicit a continuance of "the public patronage,
both for our own and their benefit, it will promote
individual enterprise and reduce the price of .Stage
