A T this time, when the spirit ofspeculation in land
is prevailing to an extent unprecedented in our
country, allow tue to endeavor to direct public opin
ion from objects at a distance—contingent and doubt
ful in result, to those nearer home, which, from every
facility of information afford assurances, that at least,
possess some advantages to those who have their mon
ey to expend in adventures, that of cjcrtaint y. I will
say nothing in relation to patriotic consideration.which
should at least, so far influence our citizens as to in
duce them not to desert the land of their birth or adop
tion, unless, advantages of a superior character he
held out to them; but, I will address myself to their
interest alone. It is now two years since I passed
through that part of Georgia, bordering on Flint river,
when I was induced to inquire of the few scattered
settlers I occasionally met, respecting the qualities of
lands and the prospect of health. Being fa
vorably impressed with tlie country, I spent some time
in m iking a personal examination as to the extent of
the rich lands, the advantages the country possessed
in regard to water courses, the chance of erecting mills,
and what might be ultimately anticipated from the na
tural advantages when they should be fairly developed
and appreciated, and I must say, my expectations were
more than fully realiz' d. I immediately made some
purchases in Lee county on cither side the Flint river,
about four miles above a place called Pindertown.—
Being convinced that this was the most eligible site for
a commercial town, and one that must possess ad-
vtyitages over any other place on this river. It has a
central location to a large body of rich land. The site
selected, is a beautiful eminence of pine land, and has
a bold bluff upon the river. It is immediately upon
the post road from Augusta and the up country to
Florida. It will also have a State road passing thro’
it from Columbus to St. Marys, besides the numerous
thoroughfares that will be made from this ferry to com
municate with different parts of tlie country.
Tlie counties of Lee, Sumter, and Baker, arc on
Flint river, and abound in the most fertile lands that
are best adapted to the culture of cotton and corn. The
face of the country is level, the ricli lands lying on or
in the vicinity of water courses which are at umlaut A
never failing ; the timber is alternately oak, hickory,
and pine, while the first is always upon strong land—
much of the pint land also, will rate tvith the best in
Georgia, in regard to the river, as far as toy knowledge
extends, it is not surpassed for the purpose of naviga
tion by scarce any in the State Yvitli a small expendi
ture to remove some temporary obstacles, which thro’
tlie wisdom of our Legislature, must soon he effected.
The contemplated railroad, for which Thomas Spal
ding Esq. has a charier, communicating with Flint &
Ocmulgee rivers, will greatly benefit this section of
country.' It will perfect an inland communication
from the Atlantic cities to those ofthe Gulf of Mexico;
t work nmch.needed, both from its commercial advan
tages and that of government. This rail road has its
termination on Flint river, at the point before alluded
to fora town site. I have entered into bonds with Mr.
Spalding, to that effect, that the tqwn will belaid out
during the present season, and the lots offered for sale
as announced in advertisement
From close observation, 1 discover, that those who
are temperate in their habits, enjoy as full a share of
health, as in any other part of the country in the same
latitude. The society is gradually improving, and I
think such inducements are held out, both by present
and future prospects as to authorise an investment
which will certainly yield a large percent.

During the last winter I was taken with an ulcerated
throat, which soon became so severe as to prevent my
taking sufficient food to sustain life. I remained in this
situation several days, emaciated, and threatened with
absolute and unavoidable starvation—when, ns a last
resort, I had recourse to The Indian’s Panacea, and
found from it almost immediate relief, recovering so
rapidly that in four weeks I found myself quite well,
as I have remained ever since.
