Oglethorpe on this Island, was celebrated by the Sporting and Agricultural Club, on Friday, the 8th of April, in an appro priate manner. .The celebration should have ta ken place on the Gib of February last, but was postponed in consequence of several members and many of the expected guests having inarch ed to meet the savage foe on the banks qt the Wiihlacoocbce. The proceedings of the day commenced with aii:impressive prayer by the Rev. T. 11. liar- tow , niter which an eloquent address was de livered by T. Spalding. Esq. in which, lie gave a nriel bnt graphic sketch of the early sotllcmeut of St. Simons, by Oglethorpe, ami of the buttles of Bloody Marsh, and at Fort Moussa, in both of which'sopte of his ancestors served with dis- tiuctiou.
