The Cotmtiaiider-iu-Chti'f has therefore determined to raise by voluntary enlist ment. three battalions of militia, which, together with the battalion now tinder command of iWaj. Howard ' will constitute two full regiments, who will he required i to serve for the space of three months on the Western | lion tier, unless sotuer discharged. These battalions! must consist each, of at least four companies, and each ] company of one captain, one lir^t anu second iieuteu- j ant, and one ensign, fonr sergeants, four corporals j and sixty-four privates. The line of pier is to be in 24 feet water about 5500 feet in length, commencing within about COO feet from the battery, and eight or nine hundred feet from the present line of thd shore, with which it is to be connected by bridges to wharves, through which the tide would ebb and flow.
