“ Doctor Elijah Pratt: Dear sir—As I feel it a mat
ter of much public importance to possess a means of
lessening the terrible sufferings of sore nipples, I have
much pleasure in being able to say that the “ Shield”
you offer for the preventing and the cure of this mala
dy, is better adapted to this purpose than any I have
heretofore seen. In the two or three instances Ilrwc
known them to be used, much satisfaction has been
expressed; n ud I have no hesitation to believe it will
generally succeed. I am so well persuaded of this at
this moment, that 1 cannot forbear to express a wish
that 1 ur city through the various apothecaries may be

die celebrated race horse Argj le, who is die favorite of
die Soutti. See Turf Register for the pedigree of
Monsieur Tonsou and Collier.
1 do certily that the bay horse which I have sold to
Mr. George B, Robertson, will be five years olddiis
spring, and that he was got by Mr. Win. K. Johnson’s
horse Tonson, his dam Ugenua, the dim of die cele
brated race horse Collier, formerly owued by Win. Fin
ney and myself. The above (Miner.) I trained the
spring he was tlireo years eld; his first stakes at Fair-
field—first heat I in. 55s. for which he did uot contend;
second heat, he was beaten by Mr. Hare’s black colt
(now Black Heath) by about half a length, in the un
precedented time of lin. 51s. (see Turf Keg's ter.)—
Having an extraoidinary opinion of Miner’s speed and
durability, and this being die best 2d heat I had dieu,
or have ever yet witnessed, aver any Course South of
the Long Island Course, N. York, 1 purchased Mr
Hare’s Black Heath. The next lull I trained them to
gether. aud whs under die firm conviction, from pri
vate trials, diat Miner was the best of the two, and as
an ovidcnce of tna fact, I refused§1700 for liulfofMi-
ncr, and sold to Mr Richard Adams the whole ol Black
Heath for 2500, the next day. The spring he was
four I trained him again. In contcndingfor the J. C.
Purse over the Broad Rock Course, he letdown in die
second heat; though let down he was well up—Ire-
uette winning, Tobaconist distanced. I have 110
doubt nature intended him for a first rate four mile
horse, but from some injury which I never could t.c
count for, he was unfortunate. This last race see
Tmf Register. JOHN IIETH.
Coal Pitts, Chesterfield co. Va. Jad. 24, 1830.
Isold the dam of .Miner to Geo. W. Johnson, son of
.Mr. \V. K. Johnson, when 15 years old, for the sum
of$1500cash. JOHN IIETH.
1 have also sold the half of two fillies, one when a
year old, the other when two, for $2006 cash, both out
of die dam of Miner. JOHN IIETH.
I am well acquainted with the Lay horse Miner, now
die property of Mr. George B Robertson, and have
been from the dme of foaling to the present dav—He
was g<-t by my horse Monsieur Tonsou, out ol r Bren
da, and will be five years old this spring, 1830. Thig
mare Brenda is now the property of my son George,
and has some very promising colts, and" is now in foal
to Eclipse. She is also die dam of Collier b.v Sir
Charles, who has run into distinction in Virginia. I
have seen this horse Aliuer, while in training, and
know that lie was considered very promising, aud that
Mr. John Hctb, who trained him, diought highly of
him, and valued him highly I have also seen him
run. aud perform admirably "well, and I thought high
ly of him as a race horse. He is certainly of fine ap
pearance. great durability and of fine family. Given
