On | looking at the provisions of the Bill, they will be found [ less objectionable than those of most Bank charters. | This bill has been drawn up with great caution, and [the interests of the whole community are duly eon- | united. .Main persons are opposed to banks in teto, others lire merely oppos'd to making new ones, because they |may interfere with the old; and some because they I think no more are wanted. Should tfot question be |r<.-<olved into one of expediency merely, we have no | doubt bat the cliurtpr .will bo passed; An increase ot ‘it.d is necessary in Macon; there being less ofbank- |i.:» capital hero, than in airy other town of like in;- [portance in the United States. It is with communities |as wi;!i individual.-, a certain amount of capital is ne- Icc.viary for their business operations.- An individual [who lias but a suinll capital, cannot compete with his [more monied neighbor; a Statu that is deficient in [hanking rapit il, will forever be behind her sister States | wlit.-e banking capital i« greater; ami a town with no |(«r an insufficient) banking capital, rauntforever do |hnsin.-s» at a disadvantage—it cannot give so high a [ price for produce, nor sell goods so cheap. With all I her facilities for trade, she will be forever eclipsed by | her rivals, trim are better snplied. This is now the [istiiaiion of Macon, llcr capital is not sufficient for [her business; she consequently does business at adis- | advantage, and cannot keep pace with her rivals. Whatever may be said against banking, in other I States, nothing can be said here. There is no surplus | if hank capital in Geargia—and in Macon there is a I deficiency. Georgia in comp tiled to keep jutee icith the I iarrciisc cj hanks in other States, or bo outstripped by ['bin; and Macon should have as many and ns large j hanks as any of her rivals, or bIic cannot keep pace | with them. Wo are therefore of opinion, that the Legislature I would lie conducing to tlie interests of the community, | by granting this charter. It is not so much for the ben- [ctit of citizens of Maron, that capital is wanted, as for [the planters generally. Giant tips charter, make mo- | ney plcnticr, and Cotton would inevitably command a | hotter price.' (N. C.) Register. that “William I’.
