The following is contained in a Postscript publish

“ On yesterday about 1 o’clock in dm day time, 3
large wagons, loaded with dry goods, flour and salt,
were way-laid by six Indians, about 8 miles from this
place—taken about a mile from the road, tbe muleg
taken out, and the couteuto of the wagons packed up
on them in sacks found in the wagons, and with three
negroes, the drivers, carried off towards the peninso-

FROM ’/HE ARMY.
The St. Augustine Herald of lire 23fo ult. received
by last night's Mail, says—“ Wc have been permitted 1
to peruse a letter from an officer or die arm v, dated
Fort Armstrong, (Dade’s Battle Ground,) Jan. 21st,
from which we learn that by order oT.Muj. Gen. Jesup,
the Wohoo Swamp had been thorougbiv explored, to
gether with every trail leading to the Wifolacooch'ee,
witliin a circuit of 40 miles. It is represented of vast
extent and diiiicult of access, and it is a matter of as
tonishment how the Indians were ever driven from this
strong hold ' The negro prisoners state tliat there is a
serious difficulty among the Indians—that Osceola has
been deserted by oil his followers, and is now wander-
ing about with only some 8 or 10 of his friend*. Maj.
Foster, with a party of Creek Indians, had gone in
pursuit of 4 or 600 Seininqles who were represented
to be ill a swamp about 20 miles southwest of the Wa-
hoo Swamp. A detachment were to move op tbe 22d
lor the A-ha-pop-ka Lake, pear Lake Monroe.
“ We have been favored with the following extract
of another letter, from which we derive additional in
formation :
Fort Armstrong, (Dade’s Battle Ground,)
January 21—10 o’clock, P. M.
An express has this moment arrived from Maj. Fos
ter, informing tliat 11 Indians and 8 negroes have beeu
captured' by die Indians under Major F’s command.
He is in pursutt of the others, and hopes are entertain
ed that he will succeed. Two Indians were killed by
the volunteers', (Indians.) The captives are men, wo
men and children. We march it day-break for the'
A-ha-pop-ka Lake, near Lake Moiuroc.
CrecR Indians,
.'.The Montgomery UnarJs which let this place a
few days ago for the Creek Nation finder the com
ma id of C.ipt Whitman, returned home on Monday
morning. They report, that they buried two indm
iduals, who were (horribly mangled and who lior
appearauca bad some time previously, been niurdc-
e.l by the skvagas. The prevailing belief of tbe mem
bers, of the company, is, that t|ie murders are a por
lion of those Indians, who have been left behind, to
takecaie of the families ofthoseoftheii brethen, who
are engaged iu the Seminole war and i|ie find shelter
iu the uiauy large swamps, witifrhich the couutry a-
bounds.
It is to be hoped, these violators of the peace and
Itnppiuess of the enimuuuity—these murderers of the
innocent and defenceless, will yet have to expiate their
ciimes on the gallows.—Moatgouery Advertiser.
