T HESE pills are generally used for the fever and
ague, iu its various forms; still they are a valu-
nedicine for persons, suffering with citl r of the
able medicine for persons, suffering with citl
following couiploiuts, viz—
Dyspepsia, Generic Debility, Disease ofthe pleen
Jaundice,loss of appetite, Billious Fever,or ( *stive
ness. Flatulency. Remittent Fever.
It is now tho settled opinion of the most experien
ced medical men in warm countries, that these differ
ent diseases a)', proceed from a diseased state of the
liver, or, in other words, the improper action of that
organ. Honce there is nothing contrary to scieucet
nor at variance with reason or good sense, in the fac,
that thet'j pills, combining as they do tonic with pur-1
gat ice properties, may be usefully administered in a
variety of coniplaints.all produced by one and the
same cause. The physician, who is consulted by per
sons afflicted with any one of these diseases, makes
use of remedies of tbe same description, but in a dif
ferent form.
These reasons are offered to do away the iinpres
sion that Galligltan’s pill*, being made for the fever
and ague, must as many suppose, be used exclusive
ly for that disease—an impression which, it is to be
regretted, some physicians try to keep alive in the
minds of their patient .’, thus depriving them of the i
great advantage they might otherwise derive from a ‘
medicir.e acknowledged to he decidedly tbe most val
uable of tho kind in the country, but of which uufor
tunately tluy are kept entirely ignomnt.
Galllighan’s Pills, as the directions accompanyin-
them state, are more particularly intended for tbe fe
ver and ague, but the public are assured that they are
ne verhelss a proper, suitable, and highly useful reme
dy not ouly for these, but for all other complaints al
lied to the fever and ague.

For Coughs, Colds, Asthmas, Consumptions and Whoop
ing Coughs,
A MONG the numerous complaints with which the
human family sre afflicted, none are more coui-
moti than coughs, colds, &c. and none more fatal in
their results, unless timely care is taken tostop their
progress before they become too firmly seated upon
tbe lungs. Notwithstanding the many remedies that
have been offered to the public, not any have hereto
fore proved successful in procuring a certain and spee
dy relief.
" The proprietor having been an eye witness (for sev
eral years) of the astonishing virtues of this extraor
dinary Medicine, at length deems it his duty to oiler it
to the public, in a way that it may receive a more ex
tensive circulation; and at a price that the poor may
receive the benefit of it as well as the rich.
This syrup is particularly efficacious in removing
coughs arising from colds, attended with hoarseness
and soreuessabout the windpipe; likewise shortness
of breathing, tightness across the breast, accompanied
with a tickling cough; and in all consumptive cases its
use is particularly recommended, likewise whooping
cough is greatly relieved by its use—children laboring
under this distressing disease in innumerable install;

the pleasantness of it is a great advantage, as children
will take it with as much pleasure as they will pre

Remedy for Asiatic Cholera,
Cholera .llorbus, Diarrhaa. Sc. Sc-
Prepared and sold bytht sole Proprietor, ROBERT S.
BERNARD, Druggist. Norfolk, Va
Price $1—Patent Right Secured.
1 |N consequence of tlie very great and increasing
demand for this in valuable preparation, induced by
be many cures which have been effected by tlie use
of it in cases of Asiatic Cholera, common Cholera
Morbus iu children, and Disorders ofthe Bowels gen
erally, the proprietor has prepared, and will continue
to keep on hand, a large supply.
READ AND BELIEVE! ! !
This Remedy has been used hy many eminent
Physicians, some of whom have charge of the largest
Hospitals in tho United States, where the Cholera, has
prevailed to a great extent, and been fatal to intem
perate, aged, and lunatic persons. Their confidence
iu this Medicine is such, that they say they are not a-
fraid of the most inveterate cases of Asiatic Cholcra-
when taken in time.
The following are only a small proportion of the
certificates I have of the eflicucy of this certain Rcrnc-
for Cholera. Those opposed to quackery, will at once
see this is nothing of tbe kind—for those per.-uus who
have subscribed their names to these certificates, live
among us, and are known to be men of the first stand
ing, and upon whose word the utmost reliance can be
placed.
Norfolk July YJ, 1835.
Mr. R. S. Bkrxarp,
Sir :—I am greatly opposed to any thing like quack
ery, hut when 1 reflect upon the good your Invaluable
Remedy for Cholera has done, and might continue to
do, if made generally kuown, I am willing to throw
aside any thing like prejudice and freely giro my of
pinion upon yoirr medicine. In tny situation of life
it frequently happens that diseases of every kind
come under my observation. But tho major port of
them seem to bo at this season of the year premoni
tory symptoms of Cholera—many of which no doubt
prove fatal for waut of such a preparation as yours
Now, sir, this Remedy for Cholera (as you call it) is
(he very thing that is wanting to stay the progress of this
distressing disease. This 1 speak from exprence. 1
have not ouly used it repeatedly in my own family,
but have administered it to many others and I can with
truth say its effects have surpassed my moat sanguine
expectation; in several cases where the bowels were
in a most deranged state, other remedies had been
administered until really the patient was iu great dan
ger of dying, and from simply giving a does or two
of your Remedy for Cbolciu as described, immediate
relief was found. In one instance I used it upon a
servant, a member of my family, that was labouring
under a dreadful bowel complaint, spasms and vomi
ting—for some time my wife and self bad serious ap
prehensions that she would die. But aftergiving one
dose of your Remedy for Cholera the vomiting ceased,
the pains gradually disappeared, and the next day site
entirely recovered. I have also used this medicine
with children troubled with bowel or summer com
plaint, and in no case has it failed to euro them;
most willingly do I recommend it to all my acquaintan
ces, and hope all prudent personswill avail themselves
of so valuable a medicine.
