We have never thought that Mr. O’Connell
intended Parliamentary separation. Ilis plana
were directed tow irds the political and social
amelioration of Ireland. It seems to ns that a
civil war for Parliamentary Independence
would be too desperate n game to be played
by one of O’Connell’s cautious character. If
he cast liis political fortunes on such an issue,
he would certainly wreck his reputation, and
might throw Ireland back into more hopeless
misery. Legislature Independence is a threat

Tlie Sea giving: up its Dead.
The Newfoundland Post states that on lea
ving the harbor of St. Mary’s, a short time since,
the people in the boat smv a huge red chest on
the water, toward which they directed their
boat’s course, and succeeded in obtaining it.
This, on being opened, was found to contain
tho corpse of a young and beautiful female,
clothed in nl rich silk dross, and having three
solid gold rings upon her fingers. And this
was all that could be learned concerning her;
who she had been, or the circumstances of her
death, remain to us still sealed ; it is most like
ly, however, that the lair young creature had
died at sea, and her body been committed to the
waters of tlie deep, which thus have yielded it
up again.
It,only remains for us to add that the chest,
with the body in it, just as it lay when first
opened; was consigned to the grave, with the
-appropriate and solemn rites of Christian buri
al in St. Mary’s.
THE BBEAKI1VO HEART.
BY TAKTBOBqaUS.*
'Twas morning and the golden sun
XVas through a half-drawn curtain streaming.
With such a mellow light that, one
Might swear from fairie’s eyes ’twaa beaming—
And on a maiden’s face, it lell.
Hall roused from rest and half reclining.
As though itloved to linger well.
Upon aclieek sosinowtli and shining.
One small white hand upheld her brow,
Her arm the yielding pillow pressiug,
While o’er a neck like stainless snow,
Flowed many a transient tress, caressing ;
Her eyes!—alas !—those orbs were bid
’Neath her cleaf fingers—salt and tap-r—
She might have wept, but if she did,
Long ere it fell, ihe tear was vapor.
Yet grief that maiden’s heart had wrung.
And sorrow bowed her spirit’s lightness,
For o’er her sky, impending, hung,
. A cloud that shaded all its brightness,
And darkly in ber troubled breast,
Sad droughts of coming woe were waking,
Tears!—tears are easily repressed,
When the poor tortured heart it breaking !—
And what had thus that fair girl stirred !
What ruthless hand her hopes been crushing?
Wliat burning wrong—what scornful words,
The musicofltersoul been bushing?—
Had some stem parent’s voice severe.
Forbade a love she might not stifle ?
Or had some besrtless one—too dear—
Witli her fair feelings dared to trifle !—
No.—’Twaa a grief more deep, ana cursed
Than faithless love, or chiding mother,
Lsst night her faithless bustle burst,
And she'd no bran to stuff another ! ! !

Repudiation.
TliOsSavannali Republican, in noticing the late
Rail-Road Celebration in Macon, makes the fol
lowing appropriate remarks:
“We cannot tefrain fropi allying til a t repudiation re
ceived some tremendous thrusts during the speeches from
all aides, and we are disposed to believe that in this parti
cular juncture, it would be rather an unhappy move for
any party to espouse it. The necessity of the appropria
tion of 6200.000 by the State to the Monroe Rail-Road was
much enlarged upon. With one third of that appropriation
advanced, contractors are ready ?o complete the Monroe
Rail-Road next Spring, which, with the 52 miles State
Road now nearly completed, will give us a line of 340 miles
from Savannah towards the Tennessee river.”

Mr. Editor:—The death of Col Milden makes
it necessary for the Democratic Party to select
another candidate for Congress; this, of course,
will be done.through the Committee appointed for
that purpose. Governor McDONALD is the man:
he mashed the old Coon’s tail in 1841. and can do
it again in 1843. He has made a good Governor,
and will be acceptable to the Party in every part n »ui.™~--v. -- .
