Resolved. That the Clerk of Council advertise for Sealed
Proposals, lobe handed in to him on or before the 10th of
this month, to keep the Bridges, Streets, and Alleys, in or
der. (the Macon Bridge excepted.) and to furnish all necea
ssry lumber that may be needed for work oa the Bridges
upon the following terms and conditions;
1st. The contract to last for one year front its date.
2d.'The Conti actor tu furnish and keep constantly at
work, not less than eight able-bodied men, and an Overseer.
Also, not less than four Cans and Mules, (or horses.) and
the nece->ssry implements.
3d. The Contractor to furnish the lumber necessary to
keep all the Bridges in the City in good repair, (the Ala eon
Bridge excepted.p
4th. The Contractor to work under the direction of the
Committee on Street* and Alleys, and of the Mayor of the
City.
5th. The Contractor to do tlie work of City Scavenger.
6lb. The Contractor to be paid quarterly, on tbe first day
A^ril. July. October, and at the expiration ot bis contract—
tbe Street Committee first reporting on hi* work for the
quarter. »
7th. The Contractor to give Bond and ample security, to
be approved of by tbe Cot neil. in double the amount of the
contract, for the faithful discharge of his duties.
Resolved. That, atour next meeting. Council proceed to
elect a Street Contractor, upon the foregoing terms and con
ditions—reserving the right of selecting that prop,,sal which
may be deemed most advantageous to tbe city.

To regulate the price of Licenses.and to raise a revenue
for the year 1844. "
Be it ordained by the Mayor aud Cnurcil of the City of
Macon, and it is hereby ordained by the authority of the
same. That from and immediately after the passage of this
Ordinance, the following shall be the Kates of Licenses, viz:
Sec. 1. For each and every Dray, or other vehicle
used for the purpose of Dray ing. with one horse, $15,00
For each Dray or oilier vehicle used for Draying, 25 00
For each Retailor Liquor License,
Foe each and every Billiard Table,
For each and every Ball or Pin Alley,
For each and every Vendue License,
For each and every VenJer of Lottery Tickets,
For each and every Omnibus,
For each and every two-horse Carriage, Hack, or
other vehicle, 50,00
For each sn I every one-horse Carriage, 20 00
See. 2. For each and every male free person of
color, between ihe ages of 16 and 50 years, $15,00
