Bird CuBSTT, Jan. 9th, 1844.
This miy certify that my wife has been afflicted with
Dyspepsia and Liver complaint fortwelve years, and lias
taken a variety of medicines without apparent benefit; even
the justly celebrated Dr. Durham of Clark county. I’ailci to
benefit her. Site suffered much from 1 ervntia irritability,
palpitation or the heart and cxireiue weakness su as to be
confined almost entirely to hhr bed. In tins situaiion 1 ap
plied to Dr. M. E>. Thomson, of Macon, utrier whose direc
tions and applications. 1 am happy to say, she soon was tes-
tnred to comfortable iieulili, and is now able to attend to all
the usual business oi lier house and family.
Mv daughter was also afiLcled with convulsive fits, from
whicli Dr. Durham failed to relieve bet. I applied to Dr.
Th muon also iu byr case, and 1 am persuaded lie has fi
nally cured her; she lias iiaj no symptom or them in six
mouths
But these though certainly cf their kind Very eminent,
c limit be eumpned fora moment with the case ol one of
my sons, who ha* been afflicted with palsy to such a degree
as‘t» have hoeoine perfectly helpless. He first lost tile use ol
hi* limb., then of his bvily, and lihallv his iicaRinc and
kyksight. so that he might he in a manner dead, only lie
hicathed. and even that at onetime, was an nearly gone,
that his clothes were prepared in anticipation of his final ex
it. We hud made use ofthe usual remedies in such ca
ses, and even !:;.! applied m Dr. Siringl’ellow, a root doc
tor,hut without benefit. In this situation, Dr. Thomson
was called in, wild I ain h ippy to say. Ins restored him not
only to the full oiuffrce use of all his limbs, lint also to the
use of hi* eyes and ears, without which creation were a
blank aud life itself a burden. The change is so great from
absolute hrlple**iie<*. Hi id;,et* and ilenfni** to life aud
activity, sight aud hearing, that it ran hardly he realised
by any hot those who have seen it. This if a cuie whirl:,

To THE EDtTOI S:
GENTLEMEN:—Occupying llie important station in
rnminniiity that you dp, and controlling such a powerful en
gine for good as llie public press. 1 have taken the liberty of
addressing you, being an old subscriber, upon a subject of
great immritance. and it mav he of infinite advantage to
many of your numerous readers. My intention in address
ing yon itius. is merely to communicate a fact that has come
under my own knowledge, in my own family, nnd before
■Hv own eyes, and which 1 deem it my duty, as a good citi
zen, to eommun cate for the benefit of my fellow-men.—
Some time during last year, my son William, about 10 years
old, was taken with a parnletic nlfeclion. by which he wav
entirely deprived ofthe use of bis loser extremities and
body, aa far as to be perfectly unable to change h’s position
either on his pallet or in bed,—his limbs became contracted
and srmeiimes appeared to be spasmodically affected ; llie
contraction appeared to ascend gradually 10 bis body, till it
reached bis ahdotnrii, the lower part of which was so pow-
eifolly contracted, ns to throw the upper part upon the
lungs, which so compressed them ns almost to produce suf
focation: the parts protruding from just under the ribs, to
an unnatural shr. To walk was impossible, and bven llie
power of the w ill had in influence over his limbs In this
situation. I carried him to Macon and placed him under the
••are of Dr. Thomson, of that city; in two months I carried
him home, greatly relieved ; the Course wds ffill pursued
for two mouths uinre, nnd my son, once the helpless, mo
ping, decrepul and palsied invalid. Is now the active, cheer
fnl a-id bouyanl boy of former days, running about every
where. from morning till night, so fond of field sports, that
he lias become a perfect terror to rabbits, partridge* and
oilier game that liny presume to iurk upon the plantation;
and so pleased wdtb his new acquired liberty, that lie him
self has become the liveliest in his cin-ie i,l comrinporary
acqnnimaiice. The result was so little anticipated by me.
ami by all who were acquainted with the ense, that it has
been deemed of sufficient importance to merit publicity, by
giving it which, you will confer a favor on
Yours, respectfully, ALEX. HUNT.

The Jerusalem Artichoke
npHE cultivation of this root is spreading rapidly in Tcn-
X nesta* and the Cherokee country in Georgia ; o«d it is
found, upon experiment, to produce more nutritive matter
per acre, for fattening hogs, than any Vegetable whatever.
It is planted and cultivated like Corn ; delights in a loose
soil, and will produce from four to eight hundred bushels
per acre—as an examination of our Farms, at this time, up
on the Oustanaulee aud Etowah, will fully prove. One acre
will keep in good condition, fifteen bead of hogs, (if they
are well supplied with ashes) front the 1st of October to 1st
April. Five btfshels (with one large, or two small toots to
a hill) will plant one aeie—and two ploughing* and hneings
will be su mrient. They can be had at our plantations, by
the load, at 73 rents per bushel; and nt all other places
where required, at the same price, adding the cost of trans
portation.

tificates have been offered of their wonderful virtues, from
those who, it is justly thought, have been saved from an un-
timely grave, and restored to perfect health, by using them.
Death itself has already deprived bf life jl» hundreds and
its thousands, whom this valuable medicine mlgb 1 have sa
ved. il it had only been tnken in time. How important il ■*•
then, that every individual should allend to the curing of n
Cough, which has such a powerful tendency t > undermine
the constitution before the ica- t hunger is suspected. A de
lay of a Irtv days often proves fatal. No medicine will be
found more efficacious than these Lozenges; they are as
pleasant to the taste as sugar Candy.
