relative to the purchase of one Hayes extension
book and ladder truck, one piston steam fire
engine f,or use of fire department, recommend
the purchase of the LaFranoe patent piston

terms of the accompanying proposal and agree

Ordinance on its first reading, and, by unani
mous consent, read a second time, placed upon
its passage and passed.

An Ordinance to permit the use of wood or
stone for the curbs of sidewalks in the city of
Savannah.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and
Aldermen of the city of Savannah in Council
assembled, and It Is hereby ordained by the au
thority of the same, that from and after the.
passage of this ordinance It may be lawful to
use stone or wood for the curbs or sidewalks in
this city, the dimensions of which shall not be
less than three by twelve inches. Where woixl
is used for curbs t hey shall be strapped at the
corners with iron straps not less than one
and a half inches wide and extending eight
inches on each side of corner,

by by its present width extended southwardly
from Anderson street to the northern line of the
Dillon tract.

thority aforesaid. That there shall bo appointed
five freeholders, according to the provisions of
aection I*!9 of the Unvoted Code of (ieorgia,
whose duty it shall be to assess the damages
sustained by the owner or owners of the laud,
which maybe necessary for the actual exten
sion of said street, but only in eases where it is
necessary to take such laud for such extension,
and not iu any case where such extension muy
have been already made by such owner or
owners.

REPORTS,
The committee of the whole, to whom was
referred the bids for property of the Dillon tract
offered for sale, recommend tlie rejection of the
bids, the highest being withdrawn and none
other being satlsi'actory, and recoauncud the
adoption of a resolution to that effect herewith

An Obdinancs to amend the ordinance entitled

rent, passed iu Council the 13th day of April,

ner and on such terms as the Mayor an-.i Al
dermen may determine.
Section 1. Be it ordained by tbo Mayor and
Aldermen of the City of Savannah in Council
assembled, and It is hereby ordained by the au
thority of the same, that the tract of kind re
cently purchased by the City of Savannah
known as the Dillion tract In the City cl' Savan
nah, except so much thereof as Is laid out in
streets and squares, according to the presoni
plan of said city, may he sold at sucti tune,
place and in such manner and on snot:
terms us the Mayor and Aldermen of the
city of Savannah in Council assembled may de
termine, notwithstanding the ordinance passed
in Council the 13th day of April, 1881, entil led
an ordinance to regulate the sale of the lots re
entered by the city for non-payment of grouud
rout, said ordinance being so far amended as to
permit such sale of said traot. and notwith
standing any other ordinance of tho city of
Savannah.
RESOLUTIONS.

Whereas, the bid of I). 11. Baldwin for $70,250
for the Dillon tract has been withdrawn, and no
other hid being satisfactory, therefore It Ls
HeMlved. That all the bias now before Coun
cil be and the same are hereby rejected.
Adopted.
By Alderman Haines—
Resolved. That the bids are invited for the
purchase of all that poidiou of the city domain
recently bought by the City of Savannah from
Airah A. Mousseau. and others, known as the
Dillion tract, lying South of Seventh street and
West of Barnard street, the city reserving all
streets in said tract, and also the portion of said
tract, laid out and known as Wells Square, and
that no bid fora less amount than $70,880 be
considered, the city reserving the right to reject
any or all bids. Terms, one-fourth cash, one
fourth on September 1, 1837, balance
to be ;id lu one and two years
from date of purchase, with interest on
deferred payments at 6 per cent, tier annum.
All bids to be presented by 8 o'clock p. m. on
Wednesday, April 20, 1887. That the Clerk of
Council be and he is hereby instructed to adver
tise for said bids, publishing his advertisement
