pending in Chatham Superior Court, between

the estate of Jacob Waldburg, and the Mayor
and Aldermen of the city of Savannah, and also
referring to the iietition now before Council
seeking an adjustment of all differences, which
petition is before your committee for action,
and without prejudice to any legal rights of the
undersigned, lint in the spirit of compromise
and looking towards quieting of title, adjust
ment of differences ann boundaries, the under
-sjgred nfter to pay to the City the sum of Fifteen
thousand Dollars, provided an agreement is

An Ordinance to grant lot No. 32 Charlton
'vard to the Wardens and Vestry of St. John's
church on certain conditions.
Whereas, Ou August 18. 1869. the 3tayor and
Aldermen of the city of Savannah, granted to
the V> ardens and Vestry of St John's church,
in Savannah, the lot of land No. 32 Charlton
ward, city of Savannah, in trust for the use and
advantage of the society established in St.
John’s church called St. John's Church Aid
Society, for the purpose of building theveou a
church, the sitting m which shall be always
free, and subject to the control and manage
ment of said society. And further in trust that
the said Wardens and Vestry shall and will
convey the same, subject to the conditions
therein set out, in such manner as said society
by resolution directs.
And Whereas, Said grant was made on the
express condition that if said charity should
cease to exist, or if snidJpnd should be appro
priated to other land should im
mediately revert to and again become the prop
erty of said city;
, And Whereas, Said St. John’s Church Aid
Society erected on said lot number 32 Charlton
ward a church in accordance with the said
grant;
And Whereas, Said society has found it ad
visable to remove said church from said lot num
-32 Charlton ward to lot number 31 Galhe
ward:
And Whereas. Said lot number 31 Gallic ward
is to be used and held for the. same purposes as
said lot number 32 Charlton ward was to be held
under said grant made by the said the Mayor
aud Aldermen of the city of Savannah.
Now. then, the Mayor and Aldermen of the
city of Savannah, in council assembled, do
hereby ordain’t.bat the title to said lot number
32 Chariton ward, city of savannah’ lie, and the
same is hereby granted to the Wardens andjVes
try of St, John’s church in Savannah, in fee sim
ple, to lie disposed of ana the proceeds thereof
used to purchase the lot number 31, Uallie ward,
which shall be held for the use and advantage of
the said St. John's Aid Society for the same uses
and purposes as said lot number 32 Charlton
ward, in the city of Savannah, was held in and
under the grant made by the said Mayor and
Aldermen on Aug. 18, 1869.

second time, and on motion laid on the
table: taken from the table June 1, 1887, amend
ed and passed.
Ax Ordinance to amend article LX. of the Sa
vannah City Code, adopted Feb. 16, 1870, so as
to require all occupants of houses, merchants,
shoplteepers-grocersand tradesmen occupying
E remises to which no yards are attached to
cep within their premises a box or barrel of
sufficient size. In which shall be deposited all
offal, filth, rubbish, dirt aud other matter gen
erated In said premises, or to put such box or
barrel in the streets or lanes under conditions
prescribed herein.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and
Aldermen of the city of Savannah in Council
assembled, and it is hereby ordained by the
authority of the same. That section 2 ot’ said
article be amended so as to read as follows: The
owners, tenants or occupiers of houses having
yards or enclosures, and rill occupants of houses,
all merchants, shop-keepers, grocers and trades
men occupying premises to which no yards are
attached shall keep within their yards or
premises a box or barrel of sufficient size, in
■which shall be deposited all the offal, filth, rub
bish, dirt and other matter generated in said
building and enclosure, and the said filth of everv
description as aforesaid shall be placed in said
box or barrel, from the first day of April to the
first day of November, before the hour of 7
o'clock a. in . and from the first day of November
(inclusive) to the last day of March (inclusive)
before the hour of 8 o’clock a. m.. and such mat
ter so placed shall be dailv removed (Sundays
excepted) by the Superintendent, to
such , places two miles at least
without the city as shall be designated by the
3rayor or a majority of the Street and Lane
Committee. And it shall he unlawful for any
occupant of a house, merchant, shopkeeper,
grocer or tradesman to sweep Into or to deposit
in any street or lane of this city any paper,
trash, or rubbish of any kind whatsoever, nut
the same shall be kept in boxes or barrels as
hereinbefore provided, for removal by the, scav
enger of the city. Any person not having a vard
may put the box or barrel containing the offal,
rubbish, etc., in the street or lane for removal
by the scavengar, provided the box or barrel so
put in the street or lane shall be of such char
acter and size as to securely keep the offal, rub
bish, etc., from getting into the street or lane.
And any person other than the owner or scaven
ger interfering with or troubling the box or bar
rel so put in the street or lane shall be punished
on conviction thereof in the police court by fine
not exceeding SIOO or imprisonment not exceed
ing thirty days, either or both in the discretion
of officer presiding in said count.

Sir—At meeting of the Board of Sanitary
Commissioners, held this date, the Secretary
was directed to forward to honorable the City
Council of Savannah the following extract from
report of the Health Officer ana resolution of
the board:
I (Health Officer) beg to say that Aiderqien
W. F. Reid stated to me on May 26th that it was
reported to him by several persons that the
quarantine station of this port was being run to
the lie.neflf of the Tug Boat Company and N.
Paulsen A Cos., ship chandlers, to the detriment
and inconvenience of other citizens. Alderman
Reid declined to give me the names of bis
authors, This report is a direct
reflection against llie integrity of the executive
officer of the quarantine department of this
port and coming as it does, though an Aider
man ol the city, should be proven or disprove!!.
1 respectfully ask. as a matter of justice to me
that tills hoard take immediate steps which will
force this report to a court, of inquiry. I am
not content to let the matter rest where it

will, in all probability, advance to 15 points

as this road will traverse a country unsurpassed
for mineral wealth, for climate, for scenery, for
agricultural purposes, and for attractiveness to
the settler.
The company has mortgaged its franchise and
entire line of railroad, built and to be built, aud
all Its other property, to the Boston Safe Deposit
and Trust Company to secure its issue of 80-year
6 per cent, bonds. These bonds will be issued at
the rate of about $17,000 per mile, on a line ex
tending from Atlanta, Ga., to Knoxville. Tnn.
A sinking fund is provided for t heir redemption.
It will be one ot the best paying roads in the
South. It will be of standard gauge and will
develop a region of country extending from
Middle Georgia, through North Carolina to
Knoxville, Tenn., where it will connect with
lines leading to Cincinnati, Louisville, St. Louis
and Pittsburg.
The road is now completed to Murphy. N. (*.,
and is to be pushed on to Knoxville as fast as
the nature of the country will permit. The high
financial standing and energy of the men prin
cipally interested in it sufficiently guarantees its
early completion.
