I say to girls, then, don't give your young man a cigarette case. He has a number already, and smokes more than is good for him. Don't give him a flask. He holds enough as it is. Don't give him a scarf pin or ring. He is sufficiently bedecked with jewelry. Don’t give him a moucfcoir case. He smells now. Don’t give him a caehe-nez. It will make his throat delicate. Don’t embroider him a sofa cushion. He is lazy enough. Don't give him a walking stick. He’ll leave it in the first ’‘art gallery” he goes to. Don't give him your photograph in a frame. Ke’ll mention it at his club. But if you want to lie kind, give him a copy of some good, standard author on some sensible, serious subject, and tell him that vour regard and appreciation for him in the future depends entirely upon his familiarity with at least that one subject of living in terest. It is rather more difficult to advise young men to shop for their best girls, but I should say: Don’t give her a fan She will ait down on it at her fl.-x*. ball, or you will if she don’t. Don’t give her a smelling bottle, unless you want her to “feel faint” on every possi ble occasion. Don’t give her a girdle, for it is the most hideous “ornament” of the age. Do.i’t givo her an enameled flower pin, for some other fellow is sure to have spared you the trouble. Don’t give her a bangle with a padlock and key, unless yon want her to giggle whenever she gets alone with her girl friends. Don’t give her silver ornaments for her dressing table. .She spends too much time there already. Don’t give her a bon honniere. Her com plexion is none too good as it is. Don’t give her garter clasps. It isn’t comma il faut. Don’t send her flowers. She’ll forget you by New Year’s. But, dear boy. if you can jiersnade her to accept one tiny little theatre Iromiet, not more than four inches tall, and can impress it upon her that all your future allegiance and happiness depend upon her wearing it whenever she goes to the play, then indeed, you have contributed to the merry Xmas of your species. Prophylactic In Sickness. “Typhoid fever has broken out here again, but wherever Darbys Prophylactic Fluid has been freely used there has been no lover.’*—M. B. Lancaster, P. M., Ed. Cen tral Alabamian. “The Fluid is not merely a deodorizer, but a disinfectant—a destroyer of the dis eased germs in an atmosphere which cannot be breathed without danger."— Wew York aiming Post.
