peaches to New York on Monday. The
peach crop in that section is fine, both as to
quantity and quality.
The gentlemen who proposed to build a
hotel at Elberton, failed to purchase the

postponed for a time.

James Archer has found the bonanza

At Atlanta Wednesday right Capt.
George H. Mackeusie, the chess champion,
encountered sixteen of Atlanta’s heat play
ers at the rooms of the Chesi and Checker
club, and. after a most interesting struggle,
he won all of the games except three.
E. B. Waters of Butler is putting up a
building for a hakery. The building will
contain five comfortable rooms including a u
office, bake room aud two confectionery
rooms and an ice and green grocery room.

One day last week W. A. Newton, who
lives one mile south of Jackson, w;nt to
his blacksmith shop aid started a fire in
