DEATH ON THE RAIL.

Yesterday.
Birmingham, Ala., Jan. IS.— A Georgia
Pacific passenger tram this morning ran
Into the teeond section of a freight train
ju>t ahead of it, and Engineer \\ illiam
Berry was killed. It happened about forty
miles east of here. Nobody else was hurt.
On the Louisville and Xa-bviile, near
Montgomery, this morning, a train broke in
two. Brakeman Waler Wilke-wa-running
back t.n the forward section of the broken
train, end n t knowing of the break lie
plunge*] off ui the darfcnea. on the track, and
all twelve of the car which had broken lo >se
ran over him killing h.m and mangling his
bodv.
At the Pratt mines John Tyson, a 13-year
eld boy, was run over by a train and killed.

tleman, and when tne shadows lengthened that
told of his closing day, he calmly prepared for
the farewell to earth, confident in the promise*
that there remainetn a rest to the children of
God.

At a meeting of the Savanuab Pilots held to
take sonic actiou in the great loss sustained by
them in common with this community, it was
resolved, that in the death of Col. Georui U
Cope, chairman of the Haard of Commissioners
of Pilotage at this port, we have sustained a
loss which words cannot ex press. Col. Cope, for
a great many years as com missioner, and later a*
chairman, so faithfully and equitably filled the
position, we, in common w ith the citizens of Sa
vannah, mourn his taxing off, and shall always
remember him with gratitude and love. We
tender to hm bereaved family our heartfelt
sympathy, and can only offer the consolation
that he has filled the duties of this life faith
fully and successfully, and that the world has
been made better by h s having lived, and we
pray that the ‘ Good Father,'’ whose wisdom
we cannot question, will reward him with “Life
eternal.**
