Freeman of West Point and Scott Hendon of Hoganaviile have been nominated for the legislature in Troup couaty. O. D. Moore of Raytown is spoken of as the probable democratic nominee for the legislature in Taliaferro oounty, while it is not known who will carry the third party banner. The democrats of Taliaferro oounty will meet at the court house in Crawfordsrille Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 10 o’clock, for the pur pose of nominating a candidate for the next legislature. Five new candidates are anuounoed in Coweta county— W. F. Summers, P. A. Carmlcal and C. H. Newton for tar re ceiver, and D. L. Ball and J. A. Chandler for tax collector. A well posted politician of Terrell county ■ays that Hou. Carter Tata will oarry the county over the third party by at least 160 majority. The third partv has practically gone to pieoes on account of the split in the Gainesville convention. There are some Winnites and Pickettitei, but Carter Tate is going to let the “wind whistle through the pickets,” and the people throughout the district will hear the sound thereof. At the regular meeting of the Young Men’s Democratic Club at Newnan Thurs day the executive committee was instructed to have 1.50(1 badges printed for the use of the members of the various democratic clubs of the county. One hundred and twenty-five ne.v names were added to tha membership roll, making a total of 365 that have been enrolled for the town district. A grand rally will be held at the oourt house to-night. Gov. Thomas Gpode Jones, lately re elected governor of Alabama is a Ge rgian. born in Macon. Senators Pugh and George, of Alabama and Mississippi are Georgians. So also Congressmen Cobb and Wheeler of Alabama, and Culberson and Kilgore of Texas. Culberson is one of the ablest law yers in the House. Kilgore is the mem who kicked the door down. He was born la Newuuu, The chief justice of Missouri, Judge Thomas Sherwood, is a Georgian, from the good old town of Katooton. Washington county, too, has had a chief justice of Texas, Judge A. H. Willis. It is now all settled that Judge John W. Maddox will be the democratic nominee tor congress in the Seventh, as be has airewfy secured eighteen votes, more than snoegh to nominate. He has also announoed hia intention of resigning the judgeship. This will make a vacancy that will doubtless ba sought after by many, as the Seventh has a large number of brilliant lawyers. The friends of Harper Hamilton of Rome will present bis name to Gov. Nortben for tha appointment to fill this vacancy. Mr. Hamilton has been a practitioner at the Koine bar since 1863.
