! court of Floyd county since September,
IS9I, and which was the original charge
brought against him, and for which he was
extradited. The opinion of lawyers is that
Lord Beresford oould not be trier) for cheat
ing and swindling, for the reason that the
etate eleoted to try him for forgery after hi
arrival in Home, the charge being founded
on the identical fac e and circumstances, at
tbat he would have beea placed in jeopardy
-twice for the same offense
There 1s another charge now against
Beresford, and if the lUnited States su
preme court renders a favorable decision to
hie appeal in March next, tbe state authori
ties cannot touch him. Ha will be abso
lutely free; on the other hand, if the action
of the state is affirmed, he will have to
serve out the sentenoe of six years imposed
upon him last September iu Floyd oounty
superior court. The bond in tbe cheating
and swindling case was #I,OOO, and lias
proved the anchor which bald Beresford in
jail, hut now with this weight taken off he
will no doubt lie at liberty in a few days, as
it la said there will be no difficulty in his
furnishing bond in tbe case under appeal,
the amount being #1,500.

Orlando liecord: Ah old gentleman liv
ing in the outskirts of Orlando bad become
stone deaf. He came to the conclusion that
the membranes of the tympanum of his eers
bad moved too te.r out in the tube to vibrate
from sound waves, and that bts hearing
would he restored if he could drive tbem
