AT THE; COURTS.
A New Trial Refused Samuel TJiorDS,
tte Condemned Murderer.
The motion for anew trial for Samuel
Thorpe, alias "Sammy de Kid,” the con
demned murderer of Charleß Brunson, was
yesterday refused by Judge Falligant, The
case will be appealed to the supreme court.
Frank Connors was yesterday sentenced
tos rear on the oham-gaug by Judge Mao
Doaell for biting off Daniel Holmes’ lip a
fen days ago. Both parties are negroes.
6ea Islands, Comment on the Market.
Noticing in your report of March 18 that
“about all orders on the present basis of
quotations have been filled, orders still on
the market are limited to lower prices,
which holders refuse to accept,” you are
wrong. The large sales of the past three
weeks have greatly reduced stocks, same
uow reported by the oottou exchange on
hand and shipboard, 7,950 bales. Buyers
are bidding, without securing the cotton,
ehout 1 cent higher than ten days since.
Factors holding firm and b'gher restricts
tusraesa, particularly so la the better grades.
