was built with rails suited for that purpose. A
new electric plant will be required, as the
Thomsen Houston plant has hardly enough
power to keep all the city lights going. The
machinery will probably be put in the water
works building.

Atlanta Journal: That indiotment against
Lewis Redwine for embezzling tbe fund* of the
Gste City Bank will probably not stand It
all looks just that way. and behind the legal
presumption there are some sensational facts
which have leaked out since the indictment was
found. It will be remembered that tbe Journal,
during the course of the grand jury investiga
tion, published a rumor that Judge Newman,
the district attorney and the foreman of the
grand jury had some “talk" about Redwine be
ing examined as a witness Well, just because
Redwine was taken into the jury room tbe in
dictment is going to pieces when the search
light of the law is thrown on It. When the
Journal first published the fact that Lewis Rrd
wiue had been brought from the jail without
the knowledge of bis counsel aud taken belors
tbe grand jury to testify in his own case, be
hind closed doors, it created comment in various
circles, and up to the present time prominent
lawyers are expressing no opinion* about it.
it Is the general opinion that the tak ng of
Redwine into tbe jury room kuooks the indict
ment into a cocked hat. Hut there is something
more than a mere opinion, for Judge Newman,
bo it is said, was not pleased with the fact, aud
he will have the power to nolle pros the indict
ment. Then there is tbe law, which is quoted,
stating that “every man shall have the i-eneflt ot
counsel.” and “no iwirson, who in any criminal
proceedings is charged with the commission of
any iDdiciable offense, or any oiTeuso punish
able on summary conviction is competent or
compellable to g,ve evidence for or against him
self or herself. ’’ Now it is a known fact that
Judge Newman, in his charge to the jurv, said:
“You are to be governed by tbe same law In the
examination of wit pease* as i. olds in my court
here.’’ Reuwme was taken out of jail against
his will aud over his protest He was rushed by
a bailiff to the grand jury room and put on tbe
stand where he was plied with questions. And
all thi* was dona without his being allow ed to
consult his attorneys The first time Red
wine’s attorney* snew be bad t>e-D berore the
grand jury was wheu they eaw it in the Jour
nal. This is the way the whole matter is looked
*t from some official sources. The Redwine in
dictment is standing on very shasy legs.
