WEISSERT AT JACKSONVILLE.
He Explains the Revocation of the
Charter of Farnham Post.
Jacksonville, Fla., May 29.—Gen. A. G.
Wetssert, commander in chief of the
Grand Army of the Republic, arrived in
lb city this morning and held a reception
a; the Placide hotel. He received many
callers. Gen. Wcissert is on his way to
Andersonville, where he will conduct'the
memorial ceremonies to be held at that
tymetery to-morrow over the graves of
Pn 13,720 union soldiers there interred,
ais afternoon he held another reception
at the local G. A. R. post. In an address
ii" spoke in high praise of the south and
the kind hospitality offered him at the
many |>oints he had visited. In an inter
view he said that tho charter
"as not taken from Farnham
post of New York for condemning pension
frauds, but because they promulgated
I’esolulions without authority. Lafayette
post did the same thing, he says, and its
c '"i so was approved because it was done
within the law and with the approval of
the order. Relative to Secretary Hoke
Smith's policy he called attention to a
general order issued by himself last year
C"i ling upon tho posts throughout the
cmmtry to ferret out and report ail pension
trauds in order that the pension roll might
really be a roll of honor.
