■WEATHER SYNOPBIS.
Partly cloudy to cloudy weather pre
vails in Middle and extreme Southern
Florida, along the immediate Texas coast,
in the Upper Michigan peninsula and in
Southern North Dakota. Elsewhere gen
erally clear weather is reported.
The barometer is highest in the South
Atlantic states and lowest in the Upper
Mississippi valley.
During the twenty-four hours ending
at 0 o'clock p. m. to-day very light show
ers fell in the New Orleans and Wilming
ton cotton region districts, while else
where in the cotton belt generally fair
weather prevailed.
The maximum temperature at Savan
nah to-day was 87° and the minimum 69°,
the mean temperatvre being 78°, or the
same as the normal.
The following are, the chief maximum
temperatures reported:. Kansas City,
North Platte and Davenport, 94°, St.
I Amis 92°, Memphis, Chicago and Omaha,
bn . New Orleans, Nashville and Augusta
S' . Atlanta and Cincinnati 86°, Washing
ton City 80°, and New York 74°.

WOMAN ASSASSINATED.
The Crime Imputed to Her Recently
Separated Husband.
Thomasville, Ga.,Sept. 4.—Diola Beard,
a negro woman living near this city, was
shot in thg stomach Friday night and
died Saturday morning. The woman was
shot by an unknown assassin through an
open window .while she was bending over
kcr babe. She declared her husband,
from whom she had recently separated,
did the shooting and several circum
stances corroborated this statement. The
coroner’s jury called it murder, and de
clared that the evidence pointed to Isaac
Beard as the murderer.

A large number of Thomasville people
have gone to Chicago to see the fair.

Banks Receiving Messages From Re
suming Correspondents.
Gainesville, Fla., Sept. 4. —Yesterday
morning in the rear of Pounds’ stable a
country negro drove his team and left it
standing untethered. Some curious little
town coons got underneath one of the
horses, but they are hardly aware as to
how- they got out. In a twinkling they
were being rolled over and over, us the
horses wheeled, and shot off with the
wagon, tearing it in twain; one of the
horses to tne performance broke its leg.
A sneak thief went into, the house of
Rev. A. B. Curry yesterday and went out
with the Rev. Mr. Curry’s gold watch
and chain.
The erection of the Odd Fellow’s home
will begin at once, as the contract has
been let to D. E. Cooper.
The Doby brothers, Allen and George,
were brought before Court. Commissioner
R. E. Davis on a writ of habeas corpus
and released from custody.
The banks of this city are receiving let
ters daily from their correspondents that
are in position to resume former business
relations with them.
Lee Walker was jailed yesterday for
want of bondsmen. He had, without per
mission of one Betsey Hollins, sold to a
boarding house in the city her two fine
turkeys. Charlie Williams, for appropri
ating to his own use a set of harness be
longing to Maj. Patton, now- takes his
meals at the hotel Hilleary.
Rev. A. if. Curry leaves to-morrow for
a week’s vacation at HawkinsviUe, Ga.,
w-here his family has been for the past
mouth. '
All-Comers Tenni3 Tournament.
The third annual all-comers tennis
tournament will be held in Atlanta, com
mencing Sept. 11, under the auspices of
the Dixie and the McPherson Barracks
clubs of that city, and all players in this
state and others are cordially invited to
be present and take part.
The tournament will consist of men’s
singles and doubles and mixed doubles,
and handsome prizes will be offered for
each event.
The Atlanta clubs are anxious to form a
state association for the purpose of hav
ing a state tournament every year, and
every club in the state is earnestly re
quested to send as thany representatives
as possible, in order that such an associa
tion may be formed.
The entrance foe for this tournament
will be $1 for each event and all entries
must be in by 11 o’clock Monday, Sept. 11.
The drawing will take place immedi
ately after the close of the entries at the
Markham House and under the Bagnall-
Wild system. Any further information
concerning the tournament may be had by
corresponding with the secretary, Mr. J.
C. Kimball, and those players who are
going can let him know the day and hour
of their arrival.
