L. A. Wilson, of Peril has purchased W. T.
Henderson's stave and shingle machinery at

Judge Hunsell has granted an order re

ing the Wliby & Mattis property, at Adel, the
brick store excepted.
John G. Miller, manager of the Kimball
house billiard rooms at Atlanta died Sun
day from an overdose of cocoaine. It is be
lieved to have been unintentional.
Gov. Northen has offered a reward of $153
for the arrest and delivery of N. A. Davis to
the sheriff of Berrien county. Davis killed J.
L. Strawder in Berrien county last Decem
ber. and fled to parts unknown.
On Wednesday forenoon last the gin house,
gin. cotton press, four bales of cotton, about
two hundred bushels of cotton seed and
twenty bushels of pea*, on the old E. B
Bacon plaje. at o it two miles from Thomson,
were consumed by fire. This place was pur
chased by Ed. Wilson recently.
A negro boy named Joe ltyan. about IS
years old, accidentally shot himself out on
the Dope place northwest of Washington Fri
day. The boy was out hunting and while
loading one barrel of his gun the other barrel
went off. the whole load ploughing its way up
ward through his face. Death followed a few
hours later.
The residence of K w. Stephens. In Fearn-
We, a suburb of Thomasville, was totally
destroyed by tiro. The lire started in the
kitchen and is supposed to hate been caused
by a defective flue. By hard work a portion
of the furniture was saved. The house was a
total loss, t here was no insurance on any of
the property.
Alex Walker, of Liberty county, who was
in Tattnall last week on business, savs that
he is 76 years old, has been married four
tin.es. an lis the father of tiftv-soven chil
dren, three of whom are, deatt aid forty of
whom urc married. He has 101 grandchildren
and forty-three great grandchildren. He is
still in good health ami works hard for his
living.
On Wednesday last, near Dcarlng, in Mc-
Duffie county. iom Paschal was shot through
the head arul instantly killed by i’orap Evans,
both colored. It seems that bad feeling
has existed between the two negroes for
some time on account of Tom's attentions to
Pomp s wife. At the time mentioned Pomp
met uis wife and Tom together in the road
and took his revenue. Pomp made his es
cape.
Morris Izkownilz, a Russian peddler, wl o
travels through the country selling goods lor
.1. Lddlestein. of Augusta, was snot, robbed
and mortally wounded at Verdery s station,
on the Port Royal and Western Carolina rail
road. Saturday night. It is understood that
the Russian was assaulted from behind while
walking along the country real after dark,
and that he was shot live times. His death is
said to le inevitable.
The bill now pending in the Georgia legis
lature looking to breaking up the business of
railroad ticket scalpers in this state is crea
ting a great deal of talk among the railroad
folks. It is understood that the measure will
come up for a tinal handling in the legislature
to-day and a desperate tight will be made on
both sides of the fence if signs count for
t light. The bill that lias been introduced is
i many respects similar to the Texas law. It
seeks to do away with ti-ket scalping and
makes a direct thrust at the ticket tirokers
doing business in Georgia.
Camilla Clarion: J. A. Bright, who lives a
few miles east of town, found a notice tacked
on his ooor a few days ago in which he was
told that if he did not leave the county lie
would Le given 100 lashes. The notleewas
signed ‘White Caps’ and was writienin ied
ink. Mr. Bright says he has been halted m
the public road twice by parties who were in
disguise, hut each time has been able to get
oft without trouble. It is evident from what
he says that there is an elTort being made by
some parties to get him out of the neighbor
hood. Ho proposes, however, to see the.
matter out and says he w-iil not be intimi
dated by men who are too cowardly to carry
out their purpose openly.
The fallowing circular was sent out at
Athens Saturday to all of the customers of
the Alliance Warehouse and Commission
Company; * On the night of Nov. 22 the books
of the company were abstracted from its of
fice and every effort lias i c ;n made to regain
possession of them. Some days later the
ledger was found in the Oconee river, but tho
other books have not as vet been recovered.
The company was threatened with much liti
gation and Its assets were liable to large
waste in court costs and expenses. In order
to protect every one at interest us far as pos
Bible, and to secure equality to all, tho
board of directors determined to
Bpply to the court for a receiver.
The court has appointed as re
ceiver J. H. Rucker, of Athens,'who is un
der a JIO.OOO bond ana he promises to give, his
time and attention lo the company's affairs.
In order to facilitate the nuslness every cus
tomer is requested to call on the receiver as
soon us possible and exhibit his cotton re
ceipts in order :o have memoranda made of
them. The receiver is authorized to deliver
cotton on hand when properly ideotitted in
order to save loss to tho owner. The directors
will spare noefforts to accomplish all they can
for the best interests of the creditors and
stockholders. The loss of the book renders
impossible at present a statement of the com

Madison were destroyed by a lire of unknown

A. H. Gato has secured the building at Or
lando formerly occupied bv R. li. F. Roper us
a restaurant, and has put in his cigar plant,
and will manufacture for the retail and wholo

fortune to lose one of his finest Jersey cows

The steamer City of Athens formerly
owned by the Gilbert Bros., of Kissimmee,
and which w.i.s burned several months ago at
Fort Myers, has been rebuilt and is now in
charge of Capt. J. F. Menge, who will use

Flagl r railroad completed from Jupiter to
West Palm Beach by January. D. M. Baker,

West Jupiter railroad and steamboat wharf,
has had instructions to have the railroad and
steamer wharf at West Palm Beach com
puted within thirty days.
It seems that fully twenty five per cent of
the Indian river mange crop will le lost as a
result of the late Morin. Not until now has
the full extent of the damage done been
realized. Thorn-pricked and bruised fruit
that was not at first observed is now falling
profusely. In man .* groves the percentage of
loss will be heavier, the larger and older trees
holding their fruit better than the younger
ones.
Klssiraee Leader: Capt. R. F. Rose has as
sumod the interest of his former partners and
w now proprietor of st. Mary s plantation,
commonly known as O'blet’j*. The place
consists of 610 acres; 320 bring throughly
drained muck land in splendid condition for
planting. He has the gioind prepared and
plants ready to set nut twenty acres of cab
bages. Next month he will set out a fifty
acre peach orchard. In all he will have
about 100 acres in crops this season, and
next season will have the whole place in
sugar cane, rice,-vegetables, etc.
Orlando Record: Pursuant to adjournment
the stockholders of the suspended First
National bank met 1n Beggs Palmer's
office Satutday morning and by agreement,
Receiver John N. (\ Stockton appeared be
fore the meeting After expressing his will
itigne.'-s to do all in his power to enable the
bank to resume business, he stated that as to
the conditions upon which resumption could
be effected, he had instructions based upon
the racalver s estimate of the value of the
assets of the bank, which estimate is materi
ally jielow that placed upon them by the
stockholders. Bald stockholders are of the
opinion that the comptroller will approve the
plan now b.eing arranged between creditors
und the bank by a committee and which is to
be submitted. If it is not accepted the mat
ter will be dropped.
Madison Recorder: Last Saturday as J. A.
Phillij sand young Mr. Warnoek were going
homeward from town the horse they were
driving to a road cart became frightened at
some object near the corner in front of B. I*, \
Me Leary’s place and dashed off in such a
manner that the young men were unable to
check or to guide it. Mr. Warnoek was
thrown out at the first dash of the horso and
escaped unhurt. Mr. Phillips was driving
and held to the lines until he was thrown out
of the cart and against a tree. At first he did
not think he was injured but slightly, but
soon asked that a physician be summoned.
Dr. Blalock responded, and the young man
was placed in a wagon with the physician and I
other friends, and his journey homeward re I
sumed. Despite the efforts ninde to save him. I
the injury he had received was fatal, amt 1
when near the residence of Sheriff Dickinson,
breathed his last.
