possesses the faculty of carrying two distinct
notes at one time of any song, anil the notes
are so distinct and clear that there Is no mis

POLICEMAN NEVE’S FAMILY.
The Morning News Suggests a Sub
scription for Their Assistance.
There is no nobler death th.%n that
which befalls a man while in the dis
charge of his duty. Policemen are the
watchful guardians of the lives and prop
erty of their fellow citizens. They arc
constantly exposing themselves to danger,
and now and then one of them sacrifices
his life in serving the public.
J. C. Neve, one of the bravest and most,
efficient members of Savannah’s poiico
force, was shot to death Saturday by a
worthless negro, a fugitive from Justice,
whom he had been ordered to arrest.
A widow and young children mourn for
him. They have been deprived not only
of one who was dear to them, but also of
a protector and their sole source of sup
port. *
They should not be permitted to suffer
from want. Policeman Neve did not hesi
tate to risk his life to protect the interests
of the people of Savannah, and they
should not hesitate to extend a helping
hand to those who were dependent upon
him.
On the suggestion of the Morn
ing News the mayor has ap
pointed a committee to solicit sub
scriptions from Savannah s citizens to a
fund to aid Mrs. Neve and her children.
Those who wish to contribute to the fund
at once can send their names with the
amounts they wish to give to the Morn
ing News, and their subscriptions will bo
acknowledged in tho columns of this
paper. Sums for small amounts, fractions
of sl, will be received and acknowledged.
