day and was killed.

names are being canvassed, and among them
are Maj. C. H smith. Col. Jdbn VV. Akin.

either one of whom would make a good sena
tor. There is lery little talk fa regard to
candidates for the house.
Much interest is beginning to se manifested
at Elberton in the com mg election of a sena
tor for that distrl t and a representative from
that county. Col. J. s. W orley. I. C. v an
Duzcr and Hon R. E. Adams are mentioned
as very probat le candidates for the House,
while it is a conceded fact that Dr. N. G.
Gong will be a candidate for the Senate, and
be will enter :h (j race to win Lll O. Mar
tin will not be a candidate for representative.
Cartersville Courant-American R. S. Shel
ton was arrested at Acworth Monday evening
on a warrant sworn out by W T . F. Baker,
charging him with embezzlement, and
brought to Carteraviile. but the justice of the
peace before whom he was arraigned for pre
liminary trial, decided that he had no juris
diction. as the crime with which he is changed
was committed In .rifhn. and he was carried
to that place Tuesday evening by an officer.
Mr Shelton had charge of a jewelry store of
Mr. Baker s in Griffin and a shortage brought
•bout tne charge for which he was arrested.

The mill will be run in connection with his
Pennsylvania plant, and will be p shed to its
full capacity. Last Thursday evening
Messrs. Oran & Earle, who are owners of
the ochre plant at Emerson, and James
Beane, of this city, were placed under a *lO.-

made of 15.000 worth of o hre. which is
claimed to have been mined since the ap
pointment of a temporary receiver for the
Cartersville O.hre Company. Mr. Beane
held the lease of the Larey mine and Messrs.
Oran and Earle leased from him the privilege
of mining
An interesting trial has just been concluded
at Gainesville in a mis rial—that of Elder W.
A. McCutcheon and Proi. K C. Ivfeck, Indicted
for violating the Sabbath, alleging that they
were using saw. hammer and other carpen
ters tools hi the .New Adventist church tn the
city of Gainesville on Nov. 13, 1893 'I he law
violated reads as follows: Any tradesman,
urtilieer workman or laborer, or other per
son whatever, who shall pursue their busi
ness or work of their ordinary callings upon
the Lord s day ,works of necessity or char*
lty only excepted,, shall pe guilty of amisde
meanor. Upon trial, the defendants admitted
doing the work, hut denied It being the.r
usual vocation and claimed they were making

Many years ago Mr. and Mrs. Winthrop,
residents of Waco. Tex.. s< pa rated for causes
known only to the leading actors in the
domestic drama. Their only offspring a

enough, took as his life work the task of re
conciling his parents. His mother knew
nothing of the whereabouts of her absent hus
band, but the son kept un with the move
ments of hts father, who finally drifted down
to Florida and settled at Hardeeviile. on
Indian river, where he built a nice home and
accumulated a handsome fortune. His son.
who remained w ith his deserted mother, was
taken fatally 111. and died not long since at
Waco, but while he was not spared to see his

in Waco, and in sight of the grave of their

Jacksonville Is to have a union depot. It is
to be a handsome buililln*. to cost a m nt of

been completed, and there will be no delay in
the commencement of the work, ihe depot
is to be ere ted and owned by what is known
as the Jacksonville Terminal Company. Ar

president of the Jacksonville. St. Augustine

presdent of the Jacksonville, St.
Augustine and Indian Kivrr rail
road; I>. K. Maxwell. general man
ager of the Florida Central and Peninsular
railroad, and K. G. Irwin attorney for the
Plant system. The following are the officers
of the com: any until the next annual meet
ins: Presid n nt, H. M. Flagler; vice presi

that the incorporators ot the company com
prise the leading railroads of the state, with
the exception of the Jacksonville, lam pa and
Key West railroad. It is understood that the
reason the latter road is not include-* is either
due to the fact that the property of the com
patiy is in the hands of a receiver, or that it
expects to rent its fa ilities from the Termi
nal company, u;> it now does from the Savan
nah, Plot Ida and W estern railroad.
