Penalties Distributed With an Impar
tial Band.
Recorder Wilson fined Mary Small $5
yesterday for cursing in a yard on York
street. Mary had been more than con
trary, and would not stop abusing a wo
u;au. who immediately had her arrested.
J. J. Sou/a. the restaurant keeper who
yv is arrested for beating his wife, was
lii.ed *lO, which he paid. Mrs. Souza
testified that her husband threw her on
the ground and otherwise abused her.
Sue s aid he had beat her little boy, too,
yviio was manfully trying to protect her.
,1/a told the recorder that his wife had
landed once or twice with her umbrella.
Recorder Wilson was firmly of the
opinion that Souza was guilty.
Henry .'ones, colored, was turned over
to the city court for carrying concealed
weapons, and Charles Lawson, colored,
was fined £5 for disorderly conduct, but
as tiie charge of keeping a gambling place
was not proven he got off by paying the
line for the first charge on the docket.
C. Morris Baker, a colored boy, told the
recorder that he was hungry, had no
money and was compelled to steal in
order to get something to eat. Baker fin
his story and was then shown the
wav over to the city court.

O: a son & Cos., was up, charged with vio
lating the city ordinance in standing in
on * place 16 minutes at the De Soto.
The evidence was not sufficient to convict
and the case was dismissed.
