RUNS OF THE RACERS.
A 200 to 1 Shot One of the Winners at
Saratorga.
Saratoga, N. Y., July 28. —The weather
conditions were favorable for the races
here to-day. The track was fast. The
talent were knocked endways by the win
ning of Ilalbriggan in the fourth race,
who had the tremendous odds of 200 to 1
against him. But this, though the heav
iest, was not the only rude shock the tal
ent received, as Fondoline in the first,
Clifford in the second, and Lehman in
the fourth race, all heavily backed horses,
were beaten. The fifth race was taken
by Saragossa, a 15 to 1 shot.

AT BRIGHTON BEACH.
New York, July 28.—Another swelter
ing day was experienced bv those who at
tended the races at Brighton Beach to-
Jay. Although a thunderstorm came up
before the third race was started, its
stay was so brief that the fall in the tem
perature was of short duration, and
served only to emphasize the recurrence
of the intense heat. Tho attendance was
augmented by many persons who were
enjoying tlie Saturday half holiday, and
considerable betting was indulged in.
The entries were rather fairly bal
anced. and the contests were generally
interesting. The track was in splendid
condition, the rainfall hardly doing more
tnan to lay the dust. Wist, the favorite
in the first race, finished in the rear, Ko
busta at 5 to 1 winning by about fifteen
lengths.
Ihe talent retrieved themselves in the
second, when Lord Hawkstone, at Bto 5,
won easily.
'1 he fourth race, a handicap at a mile
and a quarter, had a very ex-ciliag finish
between Herald and Kildeer, the former
proving the victor.

GLYNN’S POPULISTS.
The Rally at Brunswick Failed to Win
Them Any Votes.
Brunswick, Ga.. July 28,-Candidaie
Hines and Tom Watson spoke here to-day
to one of the largest crowds ever assem
bled in Brunswick. Populists from vari
ous adjacent towns were brought in to
swell the numbers, and every Bruns
wickian that could leave his business at
tended purely out of curiosity to hear
Watson, who was introduced by Attor
ney Frank H. Harris. A vast majority
of the crowd was democratic, only about
two hundred being populists, counting
all that were brought in.
Both speeches were temperate and re
spectfully listened to. Judge Hines did
not make much impression, but Watson’s
speech showed evidence of artfulness cal
culated to catch an unthinking man. The
democrats here are not alarmed over the
effect of tiie populist rally, and will snow
them under,at the next election.
Tho Brunswick Argus resumed publi
cation to-day under M. J. Parker, a demo
crat. it was tilled with populist doctrines
and attacks on the Times-Advertiser.
