Without any screen at all.

in.trnved or not.
The first test was made with Dr.

he back of hi* head to the tube, which
res designed to be just at the base of
he brain When the electric current was

,: Ah I get something; yes, that is right,
nereis certainly a sensation. It is in

"Was it light?”
• I do not know what light is,” replied
)r Cocke. “I never saw it."
Dr Sutherland tried the rays in the

eiiow light in the tubes flared up again,
Ind then a piece of two-inch plank, five

with the letter, "O. I. C.” in copper on it,

That’s better now; it flashes up and

Then, as the plank was passed up and
Sown again, he said". “It goes up and
Sown, rises and falls; now that’s diffdr

passed back and forth horizontally. When
ie came out of the cabinet he said he
iad no language to express 6ight, and he
lid not know whether he saw or not;
out what ho experienced was an entirely
tew sensation to him, something never
hefore felt. There was a feeling as if
he were on a great plain—.a sensation of
.pace.
Dr. Cocke was able to tell when the tube
was directed toward him. He said he
had a perfect memory of what he per
ceived with that machine as definite as
the sense of touch. “I cannot believe that
it is sight, however,” he said, in conclusion
of his remarks on his experiences.

NOVEL PHOTOGRAPHS,
Combining Two People and Making
a Horse Ride a Man.
A French photographer has pleased
Paris, always charmed with a novelty,
by introducing extraordinary photo
graphic combinations through an ingeni
ous arrangement of mirrors. The results
he attains are novel, surprising and some
times sensational, as, for Instance, his
bona fide photograph of a well-known
Parisian being ridden in the street by his
horse. Grotesque combinations, such as
this, are, of course, familiar to us all,
for photographers have long been able to
produce very curious effects by employ
ing figures from several negatives In one
print, says a correspondent of the New
York Herald.
The beauty of this last photographic
novelty is. however, that the prints do
not “give away” the process, as the old
fashioned built-up postures and incon
gruous discords of the composition, but
appear to be single, instantaneous
glimpses of real scenes of an altogether
impossible nature. They are clever enough
to deceive an expert, or to make a super
stitious person almost believe in mira
cles.
All Paris is enthusiastic over one of his
pictures in particular. It is a photograph
of a gentleman In evening dress, with the
face of his fiancee daintily poised on hi*
immaculate shirt front. The girl’s face
seems to be as much a part of the man's
figure as is his head, and not merely a
picture stamped on the white linen
bosom.
The feat is accomplished by posing the
figures in such a way that they are re
flected from the maze of mirrors directly
Into the eye of the camera. Sometimes the
woman's face is reproduced in a similar
form, and in the shape of a heart, and is
so arranged as to take the place of the or
gan In which Jhe god of love is popularly
supposed to dwell.
Photographs (aken by this mirror pro
cess show people In every concervable po
sition. For instance, two brothers are
photographed to appear as one balanced
upside down on the other’s head. As both
are in evening dress, from patent leather
pumps to crush hats, it Is difficult to de
cide which one has the picture right side
up. Pictures of animals in all conceivable
positions are a fad of this photographer,
whose art often takes a humorous turn.
Avery small snake in the act of swallow
ing an unusually large elephant is a fa
vorite with those who have a sense of the
ridiculous. Other pictures, however, lean
to tragic, rather than the comic.
A pyramid of babies, to the number of a
score, Is another picture which attracts
a great deal of interest, for, though the
tots are still in the long clothes’ period of
existence, they appear to balance them
selves with all the sang frold of profession
al acrobats.
One large photograph which the Parisi
an camera juggler lately exhibited at an
exhibition of pictures, noted more for their
oddity than the popular character of their
subjects, Is probably the most grewsome
of any he has yet taken. This photograph
portrays an exceedingly beautiful woman
dressed as for a ball, through whose body
the bare arm Of a man Is thrust, the hand
clasping the handle of a sword that is
dripping with blood. The woman’s face is
distorted, as though with pain, and she
seems about to fall to the ground.
—Point of View.—“ Bilker, you ought to
he ashamed to wear such good clothes
when you owe me so much money.” "No;
you ought to be proud to lend money to a
man who wears such good clothes."—Chi
cago Record.
A LADY
who does her trading at Appel

taking advantage of their great
Dissolution Sale when she es
pied a very nobby Boys’ Suit
marked $2.98. “Why,” she
said, “I paid $5 for a suit just
like that last week, and I bought
it here, too!”
We have heard similar re
marks all day long; and we are
pleased to note this fact, as it
goes to show our method of do
ing business.
When we advertise a disso
lution sale and a reduction in
prices we maan it. When we
advertise a $5.00 Boys’ Suit for
$2.98 it is a $5.00 suit, and not
a $3.00 one. When we adver
tise Men’s Overcoats worth
$15.00 for $7.77, it is not a
sß.6oone, but guaranteed sl6
value.
The reliability of the firm of
Appel & Schaul, and their long
business career in Savannah
precludes the possibility of their
advertising that which is not so.

P. P. P., Lippman’s Great Remedy, Savea
t Man From Becoming a Cripple.
Mr. Asa Ammons, a well-known
citizen of Jacksonville, Florida, was
afflicted by a terrible ulcer. Medical
skill seemed unavailing in stopping the
ravages of the terrible disease. The
leg was swollen and intensely painful,
as the ulcer had eaten its way down
to the very bone. All medicines and
treatments having failed to effect a
cure, the doctors said the leg must
come off. Just when it seemed that
Mr. Ammons would become a disabled
and a crippled man, he tried P. P. P.,
Lippman'b Great Remedy, and the re
sult was wonderful.
P. P. P. SAVES HIS LEG.
" Jacksonville, Fla., July 1, 1595.
Two years ago I had the worst ulcer
on my leg I ever saw. It had eaten
down to the bone, and my whole leg
below my knee, and my foot was
swollen and inflamed. The bone was
swollen and painful, and discharged a
most offensive matter. My physicians
said I had necrosis of the bone, and
my leg would have to come off. At
this stage I commenced to take P. P. P.
and to bathe ray leg with hot castiie
soap suds. It began to improve at
once and healed rapidly, and is to-day
a sound and useful leg.
‘‘l think P. P. P., Lippman's Great
Remedv, is all a man could ask for as
a blood purifier, as I have known it to
cure so meterrible cases of blood poi
soning in a remarkably short time.
“ASA AMMONS."
TERRIBLE BLOOD POISON.
The body covered with sores—two
bottles of P. P. P. made a positive and
permanent cure. This is only one of
many thousand similar cases.
Catarrh yields at once to P. P. P.
That smothered feeling at night, that
heavy feeling in the day can and
should be removed : P. P. P. will do it
if you only give it a chance.
Indigestion and constipation go hand
in hand. Headaches and total loss of
appetite are the k results. Regulate
yourself and tone up your stomach
