The gaities of the week commenced with
the Assembly ball, the <. ond of the sea
son. which took place Tuesday evening.
Though not ns largely attended as the
first ball, owing, probably, to the incle
ment weather and th< prevalence of that
dreaded foe, inlluenz. the Guards* Hall
was filled with a brilliant assemblage of
society people. The supper and music
were both excellent. Among those who

The Married Women's Club met Tues
day afternoon at the home of Mrs. John
Screven, Jr., and the entertainment was
one of the most charming given this sea
son. Such quantities of violets were used
In the decorations that the rooms were
fragrant with their sweet perfume, and
one wondered how so many grew even in
the Meadows. Every one seemed to be
In her prettiest gown and her best spirits,
and the meeting was a great success.
Mrs. Charles Dixon won the first prize, a
silver darner, and Miss Maude Heyward
the second, a silver and cut glass salve

One of the largest and most delightful
Germans of the season was danced at the
Guards' Hall Wednesday evening. The
chaperons, Mrs. Fleming dußignon. Mrs.
J. Florance Minis, Mrs. Henry D. Stt vcn<
and Mrs. Charles A. Shearson were ail
present. The german was led by Mr. Ben
jamin F. Finney, who, with his charming
bride, arrived Tuesday from their wedding
journey in Florida. Mrs. Finney wore a
lovely gown of white liberty gauze ovjer
while silk, with a girdle of pearls. Miss
Emma Huger, who made her debut on this
occasion, was dressed in white satin, the
bodice formed of satin ribbons and lace

lfO>. Among the other noticeably pretty
costumes was that of Miss Annie Comet.

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. G. Carson entertain
ed the Evening Euchre Club Thursday at
their home on Bolton street. The house
was elaborately decorated with bamboo,
potted plants and flowers and lighted
with shaded lamps and candles in cut
glass candelabra*. Pink and white azaleas
and carnations were the flowers used in
one room with rose pink shades. The sec
ond room was decorated in yellow, and
the -third with pale green nnd violet, the
blending of the many colors making a
pretty background for the handsome eve
ding gowns which were worn. At cards
Mrs. W. W. Owens won a cut glass scent
bottle with a stopper of gold and ame
thysts, and Mr. Alec Hull a silver mount

Acacia Club Tuesday evening with cards
and games, and one of Its prettiest and
most charming entertainments. In the
dating room on the dining table a tall
center-piece of white camelias and maid
en-hair ferns, surrounded by tall, old
fashioned silver candlesticks, with pink
tapers, added much to the beauty of the
